God this is addictive! First season at Southampton is complete and I won the league :D

Lambert was the leagues top goal scorer too :D

Transfers 2011-2012

And this seasons buys...

you playing as Wendnesday? Mr Madine's attributes are looking pretty tasty ;)

Nope. Started my first play through as Manchester United.

Very happy with the squad and I've only bought in a couple of new faces.

Really after a better midfielder though, Cleverly is in unbelieveable form in midfield for me so far, I've got Anderson or Fletcher doing the leg work and feeding him the ball.

Played 8 League games so far, won all 8.

Undefeated in all competitions but smashed Blackburn in the League Cup five - nil and smashed a side in the Champions League five - one, Little pea getting a hatrick in a stupid amount of time.

The game still feels overly complicated for complicated's sake, but I'm loving it.

Tummy, what roles are you playing Cleverley, Anderson and Fletcher? And what formation are you using? I've gone with the 4-2-2-2 I used in FM11 (4 defenders, 2 MC, 2 wingers and 2 strikers).

You got a £26mm budget for your first season in the premier league?? Surprised that Kadlec was still available after a full season, but he's such a good buy. Bit annoying how you could pick him up for around £1mm for the last couple of FM's but now have to fork out almost £5mm. If I manage a team which starts with a bit of money, he's the first player I buy.

Unfortunately it seems as getting promoted with Brentford on FM would have been a much better choice than watching us getting beat by Stevenage in real life... :(

You had a celtic player in your team

DONT KNOCK JOS THE BOSS!!! Had two actually Andreas Hinkel got released by Celtic at the start and he's a prem quality right back :p

I know 26m is MADNESS! Some of the buys this time are really because I wasn't sure who to bring in to add depth to the squad. Kadlec is rated to turn into a tank and this is the first time in FM he doesn't go for nothing to get stuck in Barca's reserves...

Go on take Brentford up the leagues! :D Got to do a full league climb game at some point, it'll be Burton Albion again, just not yet....

had a god awful game where i couldn't see the pitch, the brightness levels on it where that high and could only just make out the player outlines.

bit of a wierd one as games either side of it where fine.

I think taking on Burton would be quite a lot of fun - got a lot of pace in the game in Richards and Cleveland Taylor (pretty much all you need at L2 level!), although had a look at Taylor's attributes and he seems to be barely able to kick a ball!

Can't believe you spent almost 14m on Hanley and Davies! Although I suppose attracting good CBs to a recently promoted side isn't the easiest thing to do. I tended to go for the two CB's at Anderlecht as they're pretty solid and relatively cheap (Jusazc and Muzuch - or something similar). Looks like you got Tom Cairney at a very decent price though!

Sounds about right, good old Cleveland, legs far too quick for brain whilst he was a Scunthorpe

I remember him tearing us apart whilst at Scunny a couple of years ago, very impressive. Was outrageously happy when we signed him. He. Were. Crap.

Although he will get remembered as scoring the diving header-equalising goal against Southampton a couple of years ago...

Ha ha, yeah, there was the odd occasion when his brain managed to catch up with his legs, and now and again even overtake them. When it happened there was usualy a comical ripple that went round the ground. Must have been one of his good days that time. Couldn't be faulted for effort though, bless him.

Playing as Newcastle, second game of the season is against Arsenal. Turned out to be a crazy game and one I would have loved to watch in real life.

Can't see me getting that lucky again.

Nice score wossi :D .

pingwing how did you get tom cairney for 875k ??? i bought him for newcastle on fm2011 and he turned out to be one of my best buy's so i thought i would try to buy him again but hull wanted 4.75 million so they can get stuffed LOL .

I'm guessing because they got relegated maybe?

Right, you gits, I'm going back into this now. Figured I'm going to try abroad though, as I've done the English league climb a few times now.

After failing dismally with my beloved Birmingham I have started a Man Utd save: here is one of my first games.

Which I guess goes to show it's nothing to do with my tactics just that well Birmingham are distinctly average at best :( 4-2-1-2-1, now using a box formation though with Rooney and Wellbeck upfront to very good effect with Cleverley performing wonders in the middle.

Burton were class last year, such a waste of all my free time after christmas when I got really into it.... Cant do it in the destroy the champions league level I managed with fm11 but ill pick them up at some point. :D

For the 2 CB's you just have too, there is no easy way to get CB's who will last more than a season without having to pay. Hanley was the future price we agreed when I loaned him (so a year of being part of the first team makes him love me still) and I guessed that his rate of progression will continue.

Davis is a player I got in 11 and thought was amazing, watched in real life last month and was the best player Brum have, so concluded he'd my Fonte replacement. Shame the money was so much, but there just wasn't anyone else who was good enough (and he was part of the defence that conceded the fewest champ goals).

Cairney I got on a free in 11 as he got stuck in Chelsea's reserves and left on a bossman :D This year Hull came 2nd from bottom and I had the cash to sort the deal before the transfer window opened (seems this year if you keep some cash and sort your deals to be going through on the opening day of the window you save a lot of money, which is why I over payed for a few players)

thats the point tho, quality of player at a top team makes a tactic more workable, a good tactic is one that works with the quality of players you get for a lower team.
