I'd feel pretty chuffed if I were in the 6 bracket, as my wife could give up work and we could have kids and still be comfortable.

As things are we can cope with less money, but this was an 'ideal' after all!

Realistically, 5, currently at 3 (*cry*) having just started a new job, but due a review in a couple of months which should hopefully put me into 4, with 5 become a reality a couple of years down the line. Hopefully.

Currently a 4. Hoping to go into 5 in next 6 months due to more responsibility and would like to get into the 7/8 bracket before retiring.

Nothing too greedy. I feel I have potential to go for 9 but might take more work than I want to do as it would affect my home life.

I could have been on:-

8:£75000-£100000

but settled for:-

7:£50000-£75000

close to home without a mare of a commute.

Pretty happy with what I'm on, my other half earns about the same as me so we're in clover to be honest!

Well im not outta school yet but if I was living on my own would be happy with 4/5, with a family 7 maybe.

However I would be happy earning less for something I would enjoy doing.

Honestly, I don't know, but then I don't really have much of a plan for my life, so I don't know how much I'll need to pay my mortgage or whatever. That said, above 3 would be nice.

Generally your expectations and spending habits change as you earn more money, i'm happy with my current position 5 but hope to move into bracket 6 start of next year.

Work/life balance and personal ambitions and aspirations also play a huge part.

I know that if I really knuckled down and work very hard, I could earn much more, but I think everyone has their own plateau when effort put in stops being worth the remuneration.

I doubt I would enjoy the effort and time involved with earning £60k+, and I am a pretty easily pleased person without insane materialistic desire (like some of my friends).

I know someone on £90k, who is on call 24/7, works 6 days a week, 12 hours weekdays, 8 hours Saturday.

She loves it, and would actually get really agitated if she had nothing to do.

So she works a 68 hour week, and is actually working 95% of that time.

I work a 40 hour week, and probably am only actually working 50% of that time (how else would I be posting on here all day?)

She effectively earns £30/hour.
I effectively earn £25/hour.

Double my effort to earn 20% more? No thanks.

Currently just about in the 5 bracket, if all goes to plan I'll be in the 6 bracket next year which will certainly make things a lot more comfortable.

Too may variables. I mean if you are unfortunate enough to be a Southerner you need be at 6 just to buy shoes. A proper Northerner could be living a life of Riley on the same.

Me? I don't give a flying **** about exactly what I end up earning. I'd personally rather have my family around me and my health. Actually I'd rather have that and earn money from my own business than lots working for the man.

6 is good enough for the moment but I'm a Midlander so can live like a king on that salary.

Im currently surviving on 3 but running a car in this city and rent is become a bit tight! Id be happy been comfortable around 5 or 6.

Yeah, personally I considered 1k per age from 23-30, 2k per age from 30-40 then above 40 preferably 100k+ :)

kd
so between 30 and 31 your target jumps by 30k?! ;)

My target isn't far off that, I always had 1k per year, but having been on that target for the last 3 years I'm about to go up by potentially 12k, putting me well ahead of the curve a few years off of 30
