Intel Core i3-2357M Processor (1.3GHz, 3MB L3, 1333MHz DDR3)1
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 6412
11.6" W HD (1366 x 768)LED, Anti-Glare, Low-light sensitive VGA Webcam, Midnight Black (w/WWAN)
Intel GMA HD Gfx 3000, Intel Core i3-2357M ULV Processor (1.3GHz, 3MB L2, 1333MHz DDR3)
2 GB DDR3 - 1333MHz (1 DIMM)8
No Fingerprint Reader
320 GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm4
6 cell Li-Ion Battery xx Whr60
Bluetooth 3.0
ThinkPad a/b/g/n10
Integrated Mobile Broadband - Upgradable65
3045: 1 Year Transactional Mail-in Depot7

With quidco cashback and 10% discount the price came to £370.44.

I have also decided to get a crucial 4 gb ram and will install it myself. Do I need to remove the 2 gb ram and place it in the second slot or just the second slot can hold the 4 gb ram so that I can have 6 gb ram ??

ps: Is is the broadcom chipset used for ThinkPad a/b/g/n10 ??

The specs are all fine. Ram wise - yes, should also be fine, I personally just spent a tenner on adding a second 2gb stick. I couldn't see what I'd do with 8gb on a laptop.

Minecraft and TF2 should be playable, don't expect to be able to turn the graphical detail up much. Some seem to be attached to the idea of setting the graphics details up to 11 - in which case you'll need to spend about twice as much cash on a gaming laptop

Actually, I just tried TF2 on mine and it runs smoothly (24-37fps) on the highest settings with 4x AA (max allowed) and 16x AF. It's a bit hard to play tf2 with a trackpoint though :P.

MC on the other hand doesn't run all that well i'm afraid. I have yet to see a computer that it actually runs well on (even my gaming pc doesn't run it well).

[EDIT] The TF2 results above were in training - just tried playing online and had to turn AA off and AF down to 4x to get it to play smoothly. All other settings were on the highest still though :-)

If you order one 4gb stick then it'll just go in whichever slot is free - that's what i've done. Make sure it's DDR3 1333MHz or higher though, otherwise you may have problems...

Still trying to make my mind up whether or not to buy this.

Is anyone aware of any other similar sized, specced laptops coming out in the near future or that are already out?

Just looking for comparisons

Very strange delivery routes, Its scheduled for delivery Wednesday anyway!

Not sure If I want to order 2 or 4gb of ram, its coming with 2gb but can I use 4+6 or the old 2gb stick with a new 2gb stick - does it need to match? What will run best?

Thanks

I've got my laptop now and I love it. The fan noise is hardly noticeable to me, even in lectures. I am however having a few issues/annoyances and wondered if anyone could help.

I'm not sure if this is a "feature" of windows 7 or installed Lenovo software, but my screen keeps dimming or getting brighter when using the internet, and is especially noticeable on white websites. It is making whites look really washed out. I just can't find a setting for it. I'm guessing its part of the Lenovo software as I've never experienced it on any other computer.

Also has anyone noticed that some applications aren't very responsive. For example if I right click the desktop and choose AMD vision CC, sometimes it just won't load.

I was thinking of doing a clean install of win 7 pro, but what software/features will I be losing from the default install?

Check in the Lenovo Forums (X-category Thinkpads). There was something there some days ago, can't really remember, it seems like it is some weird energy saving feature of the AMD system (I got the i3 one).

The TECH AIR TAZHE001 case I ordered just arrived at work. Can't comment on how the X121E fits but its a fantastic case for £10. Comes with shoulder strap and is padded.

Its actually more laptop bag than case.

Do you think this case would fit inside another carry bag as I have ordered one of these for my x121e.

Can't wait to get my hands on the x121e !!!

I ordered an x121e, the Intel i3 one, and it arrived today. Thought it seemed a bit slow, but that would probably be the 92 running processes on startup! By comparison, my work PC has been running all day, with loads of programs running and it's only at 85.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has reinstalled windows on one of these? Can I just take an MSDN iso, and use the serial on the bottom, or does it need special OEM media to work?

Can't see why not.

Its not a thick padded case (offers more protection than a sleeve), so I can't see why not.

Thanks a lot. Well I stumbled upon this forum by chance and it seems to have not only helped me choose the right configuration for the x121e but also the right case and RAM :D

Could someone provide a list of processes to stop? Mine finally turned up today so setting everything up!

Also struggling to find the optimum trackpad/screen settings that were mentioned in this thread.

Thanks, Max

Go into the PowerPlay section of CC. Setting you want is 'Enable Vari Bright'. Uncheck to disable the dimming effect.

Can't say I've noticed the laptop being unresponsive. I've left the default install but uninstalled some of the Lenovo supplied software/tools that I don't use.

I still have the default Windows install but removed some of the Lenovo tool/software that I don't use. My install currently has around 70 processes running at startup. Boots up quick, resumes from hibernate quickly (I never shutdown, just hibernate now) and is responsive in Windows.

You need to give Windows a few days as it'll spend the first days indexing, etc.
