Hey,
I was helping in clearing offices of company that went bust...
we have found quite a few new!! macbooks and pros, some screens...plenty of PC equipment...most of it from 2010 so all of it over a year old.
I was given one of the pros for helping for free.
Before I switched it on, Ive checked online and then rang Apple to check if this machine is not stolen or anything.
Customers services said it wasn't reported as stolen or anything.
But online it states that it is registered...and apple care is until 2013...

so do pros come preregistered ? Im bit confused...

can anyone enlighten me please ?
I will give it back if it looks in anyway stolen...I dont want go in to trouble once I register this machine...

all help and advice welcome
thanks

Depending on where you buy it from, some companies sell MBPs with a non boxed warranty and register it for free.

This being said, the warranty lies with the unit not a customer. When we do this at my workplace all we take is the serial of the unit, the enrolement number of the Applecare and a purchase date.

Don't suppose you know if/where they will be selling them on? In the market for a new Mac :P

have no idea if they will be selling them on but maybe as that would bring extra money for them.
MBP I was given is 2010 i7 2.6 8gb ram...

have no idea from where it was bought from...

we couldnt believe how much unused staff there was!

and if this machine came with apple care, it could be preregistered by apple ? I may give them a call again and ask if there is a name linked to it...

I believe if the item was purchased from apple themselves, they all come pre-registered. If the item was purchased with apple care from a third party, be it an apple authorised dealer or not, then the item needs to be manually registered.

Why would it be stolen?

stolen ?

it was in its post packaging tucked away since september 2010...

dont know about mac's thats why have no idea why it would be registered...
but as others say, it may be as it is has apple care until 2013...

No wonder they went bust then!

!!!
it was literally under a pile of boxes!!!
we didn't knew what's inside until we have opened the box...

am not sure and will have to double or triple check but am almost sure that box was not addressed to them...some other company on premisses of this big industrial estate...:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

You said "I will give it back if it looks in anyway stolen...I dont want go in to trouble once I register this machine..."

If its not reported stolen then it may be a lost parcel or something like that. Just keep it if they give you it. There problem, you will be fine anyway!

Ps pictures please ;) :)
