Anybody here from the darlington area?

I've been to darlington town centre plenty of times so I know it's just like any other town center. I always thought darlington was supposed to be 'full of chavs' but to be honest it was quite pleasant.

Looking to rent a flat but i'm not sure where the nice area's are. I've heard the west side of Darlington is supposed to be the nicest, is this true? Closer to the A1 is better for me so if it's true the west side is nice then thats good! Areas like Mowden/Faverdale etc? What about area's to avoid - I've heard Skerne park isn't great.

I don't want to be smack bang in the middle, maybe JUST on the outskirts. Any advice is welcomed!

Until about this time last year I had lived in Darlo for 5 years. Your assumptions are pretty much bang on, stay towards the west of the A167 and you'll be fine. Avoid the area around the train station at banktop. I made the mistake of living there once, something I won't repeat!

You indeed want to be in the west end or one of the surrounding villages. Look at mowden, hummersknott, blackwell, abbey road etc.

I spent 18 years there growing up so know it well. Yarn is nice but further afield or the new west park development is close to the a1.

Oh there are plenty of chavs there alright! You don't want to be using the cinema in the town centre if you want any chance of watching a film without noisy chavs having food/popcorn fights. Saying that, I don't know why you'd want to visit that place anyhow. :p

I like the area north of Darlington near where Asda is, some nice housing there, and i noticed there were some to let the other day in the newer builds, there are a couple of pubs there too, the kind that do decent food offers (2 meals for £8.49 etc) and a couple of parks, seems quite well equipped and if we could afford to run 2 cars i'd probably think about moving there. (i work in Northallerton and my partner works about 3 minute walk from home).

Darlington town centre is indeed a pleasant town centre as town centres go, much better than Stockton but not as well equipped as Middlesbrough, still got most of the main stores though including Binns (house of fraser) and debenhams (i think), there are a couple of centres too, corn mill is one and can't remember the name of the other. Also, Darlington has by far the best travel links of all the towns nearby, thre train station is one of the main ones one the London - Edinburgh line, the airport is 10 minute drive away too, also with a rail link.

Can't say i've ever been out in Darlo though so couldn't tell you what the nightlife is like, and again, other leisure amenities either, i'll leave that to someone else.

Queen Street is the other centre but it's not very good. Besides the CEX and the Starbucks that is attached to the end of of it it lacks any decent shops since Next etc moved over to the main shopping part.

Like Wez said there a a good few pubs that do nice food but at pleasant prices. I really like the the Old Farmhouse that is just outside of Darlington in Morton Palms en route to the airport.

The night life in Darlington is ok. Thurs is when all the underage/young college kids go out and the other nights can be a bit chavvy at times (Fri is when the oldies go out :P) I've found but i've never had any hassle there. I do miss Escapades though haha!

What's the area like just to the left (west) of 'Grange roundabout'? I THINK that's the one next to sainsburys? Post code is a DL3
