@op, save some cash and get a 2GB 560/6950 and clock them, the toxic can hit 580 speeds and beyond:

Don't be silly mate. Also learn to read, I never said I built a Sinclair ZX80 (that was Clive Sinclair that did that ;)) and the I have built them from components comment was related to the kit computers that were available at that time, anyone old enough here would tell you that there were many kit computers you could build yourself back then and very few you could buy ready built that didn't cost as much as a house. Also if you read what I said you would realise I was always a fan of AMD graphics cards, not Nvidia.. and to add I don't do this fanboy stuff .. kinda too old for that and too mature.. I buy the best card I am willing to spend on at the time and it normally is the top single GPU card that is showing promise in many areas, the GTX 580 is that card this time round as anyone that understands the graphics card market will tell you. I Also stated that AMD is having a bad time recently writing drivers that work for every situation a power user would require.


Also if you do more then game on your PC and tired of driver/profile updates every month and in most cases they fix one thing and break another the AMD cards are not for you and are a pain in the rear recently and any long term AMD user would tell you that (not some kiddy that just built his 1st pc and claiming he knows it all, I think you just finally came off your console). Read what I said again and then go read the AMD forums. Not just me that spotted these problems. Also to the everyday man that uses a PC most people don't spot these problems because they are not power users and don't understand what to expect from their hardware, I think you fall into that area too, learn to use a PC for more then gaming and you will see the problems too if you know what to look for.


So back to the topic of helping this gentleman decide what he wants and needs.

Personally I like the Asus 570 CUii, I have the Asus GTX 580 CUii and it's very cool running and very quiet and seems to overclock very well too. These are my reasons for the Asus card from owning one, not from made up things pulled from the air and not owning the card. I would expect the Asus 570 CUii to be just as good.

The only disadvantage of the Direct CUii models is they are 3 slot cards, but if you have a nice case and nice motherboard that will not bother you even if you decide to go SLI, but if you do decide to go SLI in the future and your motherboard or case maybe a problem think about the Gigabyte or the MSI cards mate.

I used to be like you, I've been using computers from the ZX81 days onwards(I'm getting old in the tooth now;)) and up until my 7800GT Sli's every card I owned was from Nvidia whether they were better or not!

Now it's been 3 series of AMD cards purely for BBFB or out 6 months earlier!

If the 2GB's 560's were out at the same time as my 6950's and they didn't have the unlocking ability and I didn't already have a £40 cooler from my 5870, I would have bought them for the Physx!

A good experience with one card doesn't mean all other cards are great/rubbish!

Out of owning 3 ATI cards I honestly can't say they are any better/worse than Nvidia, they both have their faults, it's plain to see if you browse through the forums.

All the major OEM's use both companies along with Intel and others, if AMD were even remotely as bad as you say they are they wouldn't touch AMD with a bargepole, they would just use Nvidia!

Missed the offer price on the Gigabyte 570, it's back to £280 on OcUK now.

I've found these 2 at competitors for £270, and I'm now trying to decide between them:
