Yep. There's 2 major dual carridgeways about a mile from where I live & when the wind is blowing in the wrong direction, there's a constant traffic noise. I have to sleep with my Bedroom window at night & that's a pain, especially in the summer.

I used to live very close to a busy main road and the noise didn't bother me. I moved to a very quiet area and yes, the sound of traffic now gets on my nerves. It all depends what you are used to and how quickly you get used to something else at the other end of the scale.

I barely hear any traffic where I live, it's handy living in a village that reminds me of Deliverance.

Yes it is annoying. When i was living at my dads big house on a busy 4 lane dual carriage way, it was hell. There is a hospital round the back of the house, a fire station down the road, and it was located between 2 police stations, so there were sirens all the time.

The road noise was bad too, especially when raining. I couldn't have my window open and watch a film without having the tv on quite loud. Then there is the dust. I wash the car, and after just a couple of hours, there was a film of dust on it again.

The final nail in the coffin was traffic ques. 4 lanes of traffic queuing outside your house at rush hour. You can be sure when you was doing a job on the car or house, you had an audience of at least 100 people watching over your shoulder. Then at night time, it turns into a 1/4 mile drag strip from the lights to the island.

Truly awful and i'm very glad to be out of there. Shame really, as it used to be quiet when he bought the house 40 years ago.

My house is about 300 yards away from the A1, I hear a constant hum of traffic but you get used to it completely. Quite weird when you go to someone else's house and there's utter silence though!

Last year was my final undergraduate year and I lived in a nice new hall, with a top floor room not facing the quad.
The downside was the traffic noise. Cars/motorbikes/lorries were fine.

What was slightly annoying were sirens, but they are important so I cannot complain about them.
What did **** me off was loud exhausts. Loud in that someone has got a big bore pipe de-cat so that was extremely loud. This was just one or two and I imagine most modded exhausts were fine.

None of this even came close to how annoying mopeds were. The constant drone when they were flat out followed by the ne-ne-ne-ne of the engine when the throttle was reduced. Not to mention the 'who can rev it the hardest' game at traffic lights.

No end of times I heard tyres squeal as someone slammed on the brakes. I would lay in bed going to sleep and half listening to the traffic. I would hear the screaching of tyres but sadly never heard a smash :(.

At 2nd year Uni, I lived in a house on one of the main roads of Hull. I had to hear a siren every 15 minutes as we were next to a junction and they use the sirens to get through the junction so they can get home for dinner. Plus the constant traffic and street lights blaring in. I don't miss that godforsaken room too much.

I dont really believe that I can be the only sane enough person here that when loud noise was annoying me, rather than getting ****ed off or complaining, I simply bought these:
