Im after the cheapest card that will allow me to play Battlefield 3 nicely on ultra settings at 1440x900 res. Other spec is in my sig.

Your suggestions please? :)

Many thanks.

To run ultra you apparently need SLi'd 580s for 1080p, whilst your res is a bit lower, you'd prob still need close to that, the game is very demanding
Better way is to set yourself a budget and get a card in that range, eg, for circa £200 you can get either an AMD/ATi 6950 or an NVidia 560, this is pretty much the sweet spot in terms of price/performance ATM and is what I'd recommend if you can afford it

Just a slight amendment to thrifles, if you're spending around £200 make sure you get a 560ti, much better performance than the base 560's. Im not sure if they sell it at overclockers but ive heard the GTX560ti Golden Sample is one of the best around.

Yes sorry, I forgot about the non Ti models, I did mean 560Ti, thanks

Nope not sure when there'll be BF3 bundled, sorry

I'm using a 5850 on 1440 and get pretty much locked at 75frames with my refersh rate. It occasionally drops to low 50's, this is on High settings though.

Im not really sure with BF3. We've seen its not Processor dependant but then everyone is getting different results even at the same resolution. I heard someone say that you needed SLI 580's to run it on ultra 1080p

Ultra everything maxed, 60fps constant @ 1080p using a pair of 2GB 6950's. Though I am hitting some issues, I suspect its driver related.

I was under the impression 2 x 580's or more was for 3D aspects of the game?

Hmm dont remember 3D aspects mentioned by two 580's in SLI should be demolishing every game out there so could well have been.

I just vaguely recall a BF3 slide presentation saying something to do with 3D and a pair of GTX580's. It would make sense if Dice's 'ultra' was to include 3D then 580 SLI hence all the talk of more than 1 580 to max the game out.

But maybe it was this I saw:

Can't confirm it for my self as I don't have a 3D setup (or intend owning one) but there is some talk from the little searching I did to suggest there are 3D options for BF3.

Multi GPU machines, meaning any of the 500 series and upwards in SLI.

May just go budget and SLI 2xGTX560 (non Ti).

Mw3 you will probably near Max out, its the same rehashed engine from the last 4 cod games. Bf3 might be more of a struggle but it depends what frame rate your happy with
