Trying to decide whether to get an iPad 2 or a Eee Transformer for my bro.
He is not very good with computers or anything technical so he just needs something to play games on and run cool apps on. So usability is the most important thing. One thing I dislike about iOS is how much it is tied to itunes on a computer.

I'm looking to get one of these iPad2s for him, but if all he's going to do is use it for reading ebooks, browsing the web, playing games + using random apps what would be the better choice better?

First do you really have 96gb of ram LOL.

As tablets goes I think the transformer is the best, but from an apps side of things its iPad all the way and for your brothers needs I think the iPad is by far the better choice, much more out there for the tablet in terms of games and apps.

iPad2 all the way, no other tablet touches it in reality. I'm a massive fan of Android but Honeycomb really was produced in order to get product onto market fairly quickly which has even been admitted by Andy Rubin of Google.

The side effect of that has been slow uptake on applications for the Honeycomb platform and in some instances, developers asking for stupid money for applications on Honeycomb when you've already paid for their phone specific application.

Hopefully ICS which aims to unify the tablet and phone experience will solve a lot of these issues but time will tell if developers actually unify their applications.

Either way, from what you said, the iPad2 would suit his needs better anyway :)

With the dock I think the transformer is a lot better from a function side and more useable but android just doesnt have the apps to back there tablets are the moment, ICS looks great but I think it will still be awhile before you see apps coming to android tablets, however the new res on the nexus might help to give it a kick start :D.

Thanks guys. iPad 2 it is then. My suspicions were with Apple, as much as I dislike Apple in general. Also I have an iPhone 4, so would I be able to just sync all my apps/games on to his ipad rather than buy them twice?

i would say asus is good one than ipad... as it run honeycomb 3.2 and will be upgrade to ics soon same on my samsung gt 10.1... both sgt and asus are best buy so it up to u to decide

For me tablets are all about apps and android isnt close to what apple has right now, so no matter how good the hardware is its still the iPad 2 that wins, as much as I hate to say it xD.

angry birds software are best in android than apple also samsung beat apple for shipment sale record... anyway ipad 3 is on the way.... i would chose android over apple and im glad i got my samsung galaxy tab...it depend on people to choose which one and use it

Lol.

Sorry.

iPad2, no contest really atm but play around with both to get a feel of them.

iPad 2 no contest, i am a windows man and I hate spending money but ipad2 is the best thing I have ever purchased,

It just work like a dream, I have a Hp touchpad and I'd rather spend 30 mins searching round the house to get the iPad rather than lower myself to using the Hp touchpad...

Hp touchpad is like windows 3.11 ipad2 is like win 7!!!!!

In general its best for people to choice but I cant in my right mind recommend anything over an iPad just yet, theres things I really hate about the iPad mostly the no flash and the screen aspect ratio but tablets are just here to use apps on, nothing else. Also along as theres more apps on the iPad the android tablets then it doesn't matter.

For the sales records thats smart phones, if you look at tablets iPad has around a 75% chunk of the pie, however it doesnt include android tablets that dont use the andorid market but you get the picture more or less.

I have a transformer, it's a nice little machine, and with the dock, I can actually use it to enter data, not just consume it.

Also I find itunes offensive.

I am stuck with the same predicament at the minute. I am swaying towards the Asus TF as I can easily take a mash at developing on it.

Then there's the iPad2, it's similarly priced than it's android alternatives which makes it a neutral decision. Although if I wanted to take a swing at things (and I will need to at some point) I am going to need to get a mac of sorts too to get access to xCode or whatever it's called. I am also able to get 12% discount on it so that's another driving factor. But the years warranty puts me off as I am still wary from when my original iPod died a few months outside of warranty.

I wish there was just a clear cut winner to be honest, would make things easier.

there's absolutely no point getting the Transformer1 when Transformer2 will be released before years end.

I am well aware of that and I am not too fond of chasing the "technology dragon".

The only thing that concerns me about that is if it results in a price drop of the currently available
