Retread tyres

lost for words really, remoulds are legal, you cant do anything about that fact, they give a good enough stopping distance for british standards and we in the uk have on average some of the safest roads in the world..

i dont use remoulds but wouldnt say, like some, they'd kill you, but what i am saying is, dont have the mentality that, if you buy the top of the range tyres you're invincible because you're not..
You are stupid.

I won't justify that claim but everyone will agree.

Consumer confidence in the use of retreaded tyres has received a substantial boost in recent years with the news that two EC regulations relating to the "type approval" of retreaded tyres have become mandatory across the EU. The two Regulations, which identify uniform conditions for the approval of individual retreading facilities, are ECE Regulation 108, which relates to the production of retreaded pneumatic tyres for private (passenger) cars and their trailers, and ECE Regulation 109, which specifically deals with the production of commercial vehicle retreads.

Although these regulations had been available for use on a voluntary basis since June 1998, their application became compulsory in the UK with effect from January 1st, 2004 and across the EU during 2006.

The legislation means that retread producers have effectively become 'licensed' operations, a move which has made a considerable contribution towards ensuring that the quality, integrity and performance of retreaded tyres are, at the very least, on a par with that of new tyres

thanks PMKeates for the insult, i guess you wont back up your argument, because you cant ?

the shocking part here isn't purely that Mickie and the OP are contemplating using retreading tyres. The shocking part is the amount they are saving is about what I spend a on 2 weeks' commuting on the train, dinner for 2 or a jacket.

I say again, £200 for a set of Continentals is a bargain.

have i said i use them ? my tyres cost £100 a tyre.

ive also spend £75 on snow tyres when i could have got remoulds, at £55..

i dont think you're getting my point

you dismiss ECE regulations ?

Absolutely I do when it comes to tyre safety. They don't test for the things that matter.

There is A huge difference between the performance characteristics of different tyres despite them all being ece approved. This is documented fact.

Regulations are a set of minimums standards, nothing more.

Nankangs meet them, but who here would put them on their car for serious mileage? Nobody with half a ounce of sense.

yes, you're arrogant.

no, my point being, they're within the law.. so go to hell what the lot of you think.

and you have got yourself a days holiday to calm down alittle.

Totally agree.

you dismiss ECE regulations ?

a tyre from Dunlop is not going to be same as one from Michelin.they all have different chemical make up therefore different coefficient of friction
a remould is a rubber of unknown quality being stuck to a carcase of unknown age. new tyres have a 6 year life. ECE regulations is like HSE a bunch of ***** who dont know what half of what they talking about
