I have the 900p screen in my XPS 17, I was wondering if its possible to buy a 1080p somewhere? I cant seem to find any, although I know that this laptop can come with a 1080p screen....
Also, is there a matte version?

ebay has some 1080p screens for the l702x and the older l701x depending on what one you have!

Think they were roughly £90, no idea of the quality of such product tho!

:)

You can buy any make of 1080p 17.3" LED panel but it has to have the cable connector on the left hand side as you look at the back of it. Most will have a description of it like this:
1080p LED panel with 40 pin data input connector (located on the BOTTOM LEFT when looking from the back)
There are at least two panels available that are matte and two or more that are glossy.

However, in the UK you're likely to only find the LG LP173WF1 TLC1 which is 1080p glossy but it's only got a basic spec as far as vertical viewing angles are concerned. It's not terrible as such but it depends on how picky you are when it comes to vertical viewing angles.

Even suppliers who say they are selling a different panel will likely send you the LG LP173WF1 TLC1 and they'll tell you they send it out as it's a compatible and because they have no stock of the model that you ordered.

Or you can ask Dell and it's likely they'll offer you what is considered a decent matte 1080p panel.

its the L702x. But yeah, I think ebay is probably gonna be my only option.

I had been thinking similar about doing a screen change, but when i actually thought about it... i couldn't see why i needed to. think it was just want want want! lol

Slightly higher resolution and screen space would be nice, but i seldom game... and i don't think lots of games could run at 1080 greatly anyway :)

Just upgrade my Dell XPS screen from 1600x900 to 1920x1080 from Dell

I can say a massive difference and worth the upgrade , very happy

I would not buy a screen from ebay , how old is your XPS ? I would ring Dell about screen upgrade like i did

well thats kinda how it is with me, I just want a nicer screen, and most importantly, a matte finish. I cant stand glossy screens on laptops.

Its about 5 months old. I was considering asking Dell to upgrade my screen for me, but I figured they would charge me an arm and a leg for it.
How much did your upgrade cost you?

Cost me £150 for 17.3 FHD WLED AG (1920x1080) + they took back my old screen , happy i made the change , HD photographs are stunning , or the other way is to buy external (1920x1080) monitor :)

yeah thats what I thought. I dont think I can justify an extra 60 quid ontop of what a screen would cost me on ebay, not to mention they take your old screen away, so you're really paying more than 150 quid.

if you count how much your screen would make, if you sold it yourself, you're probably looking at £200+ to upgrade your screen, which imo is a joke.

I dont think you would get much more then £100 for a 1600x900 HD screen to be honest

If you really want a matte 1080p panel you either need to do your research and learn all about them like I did and find somewhere that sells one. They are out there but you need to know what you are talking about hence the research to make sure you get the right one. You have to know the makes available, the different models available, and when you find a supplier you need to get it confirmed by the supplier exactly what they are providing and you will want to ensure it's an A Grade panel with no dead pixels.

But if you deal with Dell, you would be able to get a 1080p matte panel (it's their current stock) and they will be happy to sell you one and fit it yourself so it's just a matter of finding out how much they cost and what Dell think about user installation of the panel (phone up and ask like you are just researching your options) and then phoning up again to buy it and talking like you know everything already which you should if you have done your research.

Don't make the mistake of thinking the £90 glossy panels on ebay are anywhere near the quality of the matte panel Dell currently provides.

There might still be a Taiwanese seller of the AUO 1080p matte panel on ebay but it'll likely be much more than £90.

I would never buy a screen from ebay , defo buy from Dell even if you have to pay extra , best to be safe then sorry :)

Actually was that including installation or was it £150 for the panel and they did the installation for free?

I got the B173HW01 V.4 (considered the best 17.3" 1080p panel) from ebay and it only cost me £50 delivered but I was lucky and also it's been discontinued now so the prices are sky high even if you can find one and I agree it's a minefield to buy a screen from ebay. :)
