Hi, just got a Sapphire Technology ATI Radeon 6950 HD 800MHz 2GB, with a flick of a switch it unlocked shaders :D, now wondering what speed can i set the clocks which will be safe and stable, i dont care to overclocking over the top, even be happy with 6970 spec, its got a good cooler big copper pipes with dual fans

Thanks

Nice one.

Trust me you will want to push it further. I was the same when i got mine. If it does 6970 speeds with unlocked shaders ill be happy and settle for that i thought. It never lasts, maybe for a week or so then you start pushing it further.

try 900/1400 and see how it goes in your games. give it a few days and see if you get any crash. If not, start working weith one at a time, like the gpu clock until you do get instability, then roll it off until stable, then repeat for memory.

What i then do is roll off both clocks a little just to make sure they are 100% stable. I ended up settling for 900/1400 in the end.

My core just wont budge past 900 without massive increases in voltage which is a shame. However my memory will hit 1500 at 1.2 volts.

Can get the core up to 950 but need to run at 1.280 volts. 960 will run at 1.3. Diminishing returns.

Not sure which provides more fps though out of core or memory. Anyone know?

i just come from a ATI 4890, I got a 27inch 1080p monitor, relised trying battlefield 3 was time to upgrade, decided on a 6950 which could unlock, cost me £200 inc del and with dual fan , big copper pipe design very silent, just tried battlefield 3 on ultra settings , and all i can say is wow

also what about the GPU voltage i dont really wanna start playing with that, just want highest clocks on normal voltage,

i can get up to 890 core and 1400 memory without messing with the voltage.any more and it's a BLUE SCREEN.had it at 950-1450 with voltage tweek

I have two that can hit 1GHz on the core with 1350MHz on the [email protected].

I can get 1.1GHz and [email protected](any more v's isn't advisable!) but not worth stressing the card and will probably severely diminish the longevity of the card!

The higher speeds are using AC Extreme coolers though, whereas both cards done 1GHz/1350MHz on stock coolers!

I only use 950GHz/1350GHz on games etc as there isn't that much of a difference(for me in CrossFire).

If you keep the memory timings low the core will go higher.

Are people using MSI Afterburner to overclock?

I just installed it but the max it will let me set is 840 core and 1325 memory.

Card is Sapphire 6950 dual fan with shader switch enabled.

From another thread:

You need to change the MSIAfterburner.cfg file to include:

[ATIADLHAL]
EnableUnofficialOverclocking = 1
UnofficialOverclockingEULA = I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it
UnofficialOverclockingMode = 1
AccessibilityCheckingPeriod = 0
UnifiedMemoryUsageMonitoring = 1

Or perhaps Sapphire TriXX will support your card.

Have you checked with GPU-Z that you have unlocked the shaders?

Hi, mine unlocked easy via switchi been running 6970 clock spec done it via Sapphire TriXX been playing battlefield 3 on ultra settings working great, clock goes much higher, might push it slowly slowly :)

I can run 926 / 1400 on standard volts under water. Mine is an original saphire 6950. Above 930 i get display driver crashes but i suspect more voltage would sort that.

Exactly what card is this? can you link to it? If you purchased it from OCUK obviously...

I set my unlocked 6950 at 880mhz and 1375mhz so 6970 spec, i played battlefield 3 it crashed few times so i upped the voltage to 1115v from 1100v and been ok for 30mins now, temps are fine at 70c when playing, will keep testing with current settings see how it goes, doesnt look good to reach 900mhz now

Thanks
