I've had another phase of retro fever lately, and am still astounded at how good some of the old games look and play, even today.

My example:
Last night, my cousin and I decided to play Super Mario Kart on the SNES over a few beers on a 42" plasma. Still to this day one of the most fiercely competetive games I've ever played. Lots of swearing, laughing, frustration and digs of elbows. :D

Anyway - the thing that struck me is that this game is OVER 19 YEARS OLD! Can anyone top that (1992) with a game they still play & enjoy for hours at a time?

Not quite as old but C&C Red Alert is next if we can get it working on the PC! :D

Lords of Midnight for me, which was released in 1984. To be fair though, I usually play it with one of the graphical updates available.

X-Com still gets a regular play in its original form though, that was 1994.

what your trying to say is that a load of greedy idiots who don't really care about making good games and see it as a 9-5 job went down the game development career path over the last 20 years isn't it :D there i said it for you.

joking aside, played sonic too last week and couldnt remember how to get in the secret pathways on the first level. i know they are there and you have to jump just right, maybe its just harder on a keyboard than a joypad. just started playing the old arcade classics again and can't find anywhere sells some of the oldies - surley a gap in the market there for someone, bet you could get most of them to work on todays phones.

Donkey Kong (1981), Bubble Bobble (1986), Dungeon Master (1987), Blood Money (1989) and before I forget (again)...The Eidolon (1985) - anyone ever play this?

Love going back to those games from my youth.

EDIT: Ooh! Star Raiders and Elektra Glide too. First one was 1979 (before I was born) but not sure about the latter.

Whats so good about jedi knight? Ive been hearing that there is still an active community around this - feel free to do a long post, I am genuinely curious!

Fat chance of me ever doing a long post. You'd have to play the games mate, Dark Forces 2 and then Jedi Outcast, the build up as the game goes along is absolutely amazing and they're cheap on Steam.

Check out some YouTube footage if you can.
