Gaming headset help please :)

Would you rather have 5 crap speakers or 2 decent ones?

Same rule applies here with the headphones, and Dolby Headphone is actually a VERY good surround synthesizer, it works from a headphone jack if you have a soundcard that supports it, but for me I use an astro mixamp, which needs to be fed the optical or digital source.

I've not tried the P360s yet so I don't know how much better they are compared to the Kaves. I'm taking from the perspective of being a FPS gamer, not music listener.

For FPS gaming you need to be able to pinpoint where enemy shots are coming, vehicles are coming and going, footsteps etc..... The Kave 5.1 do that very very well. I've just tried setting speakers to Headphones and switching on CMSS-3D and it sound horrible on the Kave, thats because there are just 2 40mm speakers being active. I need to try the same on a pair of P360s but none of my friends have a pair.

I have the Dolby DTS pack with the XFI drivers, but they are designed only to do Dolby over SPDIF. I take it the Asus Xonar D1 will allow me to experience Dolby sound through my Roccatt Kave headset? Oh and listening to music on the Kave is pretty pants, I have to mess around with equalizers to get the best sound which is a pain. But in the end you can get decent sounding music from these.

Well, I think I have made my mind up. I am going to bite the bullet and use a clip on mic for ventrilo when i'm gaming and get a set of Sony MDR-XB700

Have read quite a bit about them from various web sites and although the 500's may have a tighter sound, something about having a whacking great big pair of headphones rumbling away appeals to me. I listen to bass heavy music anyway (drum & bass, house, hardcore) and these seem like they could be fun :) Maybe i'm a bit of a chav at heart?

Has anyone got a set of these? if so what do you think?

I don't know how accurate the positioning would be on those Sony cans.

If you like a lot of bass and what good positioning then look no further than some beyerdynsmic dt770

I have Beyerdynamic DT755 and there an awesome set of headphones plus very comfortable to wear :) but they've been sitting in my draw and only used really with my laptop or my bass guitar, since for gaming I need a mic, so I have a set of Fatal1ty HS-800 for that... well I did till last night.

My Creative Fatal1ty HS-800's speakers have just died and only the microphone works on them :(

So I'm in the same boat, do I fork out for another set of "gaming headset" or do I go back to my good decent DT770 and get a clip on mic Speedlink Spes Clip-On Metal Microphone

I recently also had to change my sound card too, so spent £100 on an ASUS D2X, the Dolby headphone surround on it is amazing sounds better than the creative labs CMSS-3D that I was using before.

Or use the logitech usb desktop mic for less hassle. Easy to setup and no extra wires to strangle yourself with :)

I've been using mine for years ts/vent/mumble with no complaints.
