Motorbike Crash but I'm Alive

Glad you're okay matey...

My driving instructor drilled into my head when looking at the road/in mirrors always look for bikes, not just for cars... Because if you can see a bike, you can see a car! Sound piece of advice me thinks!

Had a letter from the Guys insurance today with a number to ring so I rang them. He's admitted blame & they are swinging there process into action, Next step is an engineer coming out to have a look at the bike. I have spoke to a couple of local Bike shops/repairers & they have said they will charge/invoice to inspect the bike, All agree it will be a financial write off without even seeing it as the hourly rate/New parts etc will go well over the cost of replacement.
I told His insurance company on the phone this & he agreed which is why the engineer is coming out rather than getting quotes at this stage.
I don't want to rince the **** out of the company & can't see why the bill should go up 2 to 3 hundred quid on quotes just for the sake of it.
If the engineer comes out & agrees total loss then job done & they'll save money. Then I'll buy the bike & repair it myself as I am not under the same obligation as the insurance company & can use 2nd hand parts & my own labour.
Like i said earlier I just want my bike back as it was.

If I hadn't of clipped the tank I'd have walked away from this without a scratch, Looking over the bike shows how much speed I must have scrubbed off before I hit, The forks are bent but not far enough back to touch owt, The wheel points at about 1 o clock rather than 12 & my right side clip on is out by say 10 degrees & a lever is bent out a tad.
I do keep walking about the house singing "I'm a Survivor" though. :o

I always make an extra effort to look out for both push bikes and motor bikes when driving, being a cyclist myself.

People need to be more careful on the road as it doesn't always end this well.

Glad you weren't seriously injured!

Hope bruising isn't too bad and that you're back in one piece soon! Have you thought about investing in a motorbike airbag suit?

At least you have a good story to tell the grandkids!

His insurance rang again today & wanted to arrange to pick the bike up, I refused this & had to get quite stern about it but in the end they accepted it & are sending somebody out to assess the bike asap.
Hopefully they will appreciate the fact that I am not trying to rip the **** out of them & things will get sorted sharpish.

Found out yesterday the Police are not charging the Dude with owt, They called it a momentary lapse.
A momentary lapse that stuck a biker across his bonnet & into on coming traffic. Bit ****** off about it really as my positioning was perfect my speed was low & I had a brand new Hi Vis vest on & it was a bright sunny day, He looked straight through me, Blatant driving with undue care & attention if you ask me. I s'pose if I had been speeding they would have nicked me & took my bike away & give me a suspended sentence, Once I got out of hospital of course.

On a brighter note my hire bike is being delivered tomorrow mid day so I can get back out on the road.
I am taking bets on how many times I crap myself whilst out on my first ride. :o

I work in defendant RTA Law- RBS is my client....

I reckon you could probably get quite a bit of money if you make a PI claim......broken pelvis sounds pretty bad!!!!

4 year whiplash is about £5000
1 month whiplash £1000

I hope you read your Clients notes better than you read my posts. :p

This is absurd to my mind - a momentary lapse equals driving without due care! how can it not?

Put it this way, what would the outcome be if I had a momentary lapse in my HGV? I somehow think I'd - rightly - have the book thrown at me!

At least your still here to bemoan it though 4T5, and that is the main issue I guess.

That doesn't really surprise me, the woman that hit me when I had right of way at a mini-roundabout claimed 'I saw him but thought I had enough time', considering that ineptitude cost me 2 weeks in hospital, 3 months off work and 6 months until I was fully discharged for her to get away with just a fault claim on the insurance (eventually, she/her insurance contested even that) and nothing from the police is more than a little galling.

Still, you're ok, that's all that really matters :)

Hire bike arrived.

4 stroke knacker. :(
It makes no noise at all couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding & only does about 65-70 flat out. :(

On a plus note though I went out & rode the exact same route as my accident & it didn't faze me one bit.
I don't think I'm 'ard I know I ******* am. + :D + :p

I'm also pretty much healed apart from a strain around my groin & some sharp pain to my right hand under certain conditions.

HERP DERP :D + :p

Engineer came round to assess the damage today, He reckons it'll be a total loss & I'll hear by the end of the week, Seems a bit quick to me.
Anybody had a cut & dry claim like mine who can let me know how long it took. In all my years I've never had a single claim before. but
