*** Official OcUK Minecraft Server - Discussion and Rules ***

yeh, but there is wrong and there is stubborn and set in ones old ways.. i just want people to experience minecraft to the fullest and if that means making heath robinson-esque contraptions out of redstone because you can then why not!, taking the easy route just seems, well... easy : P

and FYI, i do believe i have correctly made piston gates (as have many others) and a prototype piston bridge is well on its way.

For the portcullis mod all it does is make the solution easy and neat.
tbh i prefer the system of build it yourself. or if it can be done dont add a mod for it.

The style of draw bridge from what i know is not possible in the way it is
done in the mod. Only variant is the auto repair bridge that is extended
all the time.

Yrth, ihave managed to make a bridge extend, then retract at a 5 block gap. the only problem i face is resetting, which tbh shouldnt be a problem with a few mechanisms up my sleeves ; P

Anyone know if they are fixing the terrain generation code as is for the "final" release? I keep hearing comments that they plan on changing the terrain code *after* release to bring back the variety in terrain which 1.7 had, i.e. not just flat-flat-flat-****ing MOUNTAIN!11!-flat-flat-flat, but more like flat-hill-wooded valley-mountain forest-snow forest etc.

TBH if the implement a terrain code generation chage *after* release its probably the most retarded thing they can do, by then a large chunk of the world will have been generated on MP maps surely, and especially on servers that have the whole map pregenerated from the start, like we had last time.

This is still the number one issue with the game for me, boring landscapes.

I notice the 1.7 map is now generating new biomes beyond the old border... I found a new marsh biome the other day, way out west...

The reason for pre-gen previously was that it can cause server load and instability. With the newer server and the fact that the map is all held on a ram disk, this probably won't be an issue any more.

I'll check up on borderguard/worldguard for the new map.

So long as there's a borderguard it's all good.

My vote would be to keep the border quite small until the terrain is 100% finished to stop people generating large chunks of flat landscape which will stay there forever. This just me expressing my personal opinion on the matter as my chief enjoyment from this game is exploring, i.e. terrain=important. I know I don't get involved much with building but I do like to see what others build on a live server so that's why I would still prefer to be on a multiplayer map. I know full well that mine is just one voice in many of course and respect that whatever the server owner says goes at the end of the day.

Though it would be nice if notch or whoever gave a clearer indication on what the terrain plans are.

Yes, I don't think having one person wander off in one direction for miles (as we did in 1.8) is necessarily a helpful thing...

with the use of border guard i think we can start off with a nice size map and then expand as we need too later. this then allows us to keep the map and if a new update add more biomes then we can expand the border to let it get generated.
