Just a question, how many of you only wear glasses while on the computer?, what happens if you Don't.

My younger brother is supposed to wear his glasses while using the computer ( he doesn't ), however I only thought this was an issue if you're using a CRT screen as LCD screens don't cause eye strain.

I need to wear glasses all the time, not just for sitting in front of a screen (short sighted). Is there a reason why your brother doesn't use them, are they uncomfortable or does he get no benefit from wearing them while looking at a screen?.

Meant to have worn glasses for reading and pc since I was 10 never bothered and as such my eye got more short-sighted over the years its only my right eye so when on a pc its not an issue when gaming but im paying for my ignorance now when I try and read text.

Get him to wear them.

Doesn't like wearing his headphones over his glasses

Arn't all pc gamers geeks who wear glasses?

I get blurry vision and sometimes headaches if i concentrate too hard on my computer, especially when i'm at work. I usually just look away from it for a few minutes and i'm fine after, although i have considered getting glasses especially for computing.

To answer your question Neil, no, i don't wear glasses or contact lenses, but to add to the discussion, maybe contact lenses should be given a mention as well?

I'd have thought that wearing glasses at the computer would be more to do with whether or not your are short/long-sighted rather than the particular monitor you use.

I'm lucky enough to not have to wear glasses at all at the moment, though I'm semi-scared to get an eye test in case I get told otherwise ;)

If it's been decided he needs glasses to correct the image going into his eyes, then he should wear them.

Not wearing them could cause unnecessary strain due to the eye not being able to focus correctly and constantly trying to maintain focus.

I can't see the screen without my glasses... Unless my nose is touching the screen :)

If he doesn't like headphones over his glasses he needs to either get in ear, speakers or some with cushions on. Mine have velvet cushions!

As other have said without glasses you could be forcing your eyes to put more effort into focusing which will tire you out quicker. It will also give you headaches due to the strain.

I put that in the thread title and post but then removed it lol :D

Thanks for the advice, i'll direct him to this thread though it will make no difference hah

If he is meant to, and doesn't, it might be straining his eyes. Not enough to make them hurt, but maybe enough to make them worse.

Because of my years of PC use, I only need glasses for long distance viewing, like in lectures at uni.

I'm short sighted so unless im wearing them/faceplanting into my screen i cant read things very well, as for headsets i sometimes wear turtle beach x31's + glasses and no problems

Without glasses = headaches and makes it harder to read small text

With glasses = less headaches... though i spend so much time at a PC i occasionally get headaches anyway. Lack of sleep doesn't help this though.

EDIT: Sennheiser HD555 over ear headphones here, when i first got glasses they felt a bit like the headphones made the glasses dig into my head a bit but now i'm used to them that feelings gone
