Hi just wondering my card 4870x2 started getting hot when playing mw3
I mean 106c to 110c... but it played... gpu 750 and memory clock 900 just ran hot
so I took it out cleaned it took heatsink off and put new silver stuff on
was 10c better not much at all but still played
so I took the copper heat sink out they were full dont know how any air got thru them anyway now fan runs 27% temp 61c thats no activity
before was 55% running at 84c.
but now game freezes then crashes
turned gpu down to 507 and memory to 500 any ideas
or is card nackered

Lines, dots, colours and general graphical corruption. That can be a strong indication that the memory has gone.

Does it freeze or arrtifrats all the time when playing games?

whats strange is if I auto tune it it goes to
782 gpu clock
980 memory
(takes nearly an hour)
and is as good as gold till I try to play game

That's because until you start a game it stays at 500/500 (2D mode).

Try setting the gpu clock to 680 and the memory to 800 in Catalyst Control Centre and see if that stops the artifacting/crashing. (Make sure you change the setting for both cores using the drop-down box)

thanks guys working again the second core was maxed out 800 1000 thats why it was crashing set both at 752 and 900 works like a dream not sure wether to tweak it up a bit more
