Hi Guys

looks like my hx850 has been the source of my dismay recently. [pending a few more hours testing]

My rig is as follows
2600k @ 4.6-4.9
8gb memory
maximus z
gtx590
xonar D2X
6 fans for watercooling
a d5 pump
2 SSDs

so not uber massive a 650w/750w would probably do the job.

dont plan on an upgrade for a while. so i am looking at a new supply whilst my hx850 is off in RMA land.

i want the quietest supply i can get.
has anyone seen any group tests which suggest a very quiet psu?
links maybe?

must be reputable brand
must be able to easily power the above rig
modular a plus but not massively essential
budget no issue within reason
long cables ideal

what have you

any corsair psu is quiet isnt it ?

surely working at ocuk you would know what is quiet or not with the testing you lot do there ?

do you actually understand how much 1200w actually is?

i would never have an ax1200 anyway, they chirp horribly.

my system at 5.3GHz and 480 SLI at 960MHz on each core folding for 24 hours pulled a steady 600w from the wall, so I am confident that a 590 is gonna be fine on a decent 650w

i did think about the ax850 as it turns off the fan when under 20% load

ideally looking for a group test but my googling is failing hard this evening

i hear tales of epicness about XFX supplies, are they quiet?

what about silverstone fully modular supplies? are they loud?

I'd also recommend the AX750, just bought one myself and whilst I've only tested it so far it is remarkably quiet, silent whilst on "fanless mode" which whilst advertised as being under 20% load I think must also be linked to temp as it doesn't kick in for quite a while

Anantechs review, noise page

SPCR's PSU recommendations The 650+ category lists the AX850 but I think you're right the 750 will more than suffice your needs, and I'm sure will be the same unit in essence (just -100W)

to buy silverstone you'll have to go to compatitors ;)
unless of course you start selling them.

be quite l9s?

on a similar note what would be good for tri xfire 6950/70s? if I can get the extreme7 mb sorted that is.

Antec new truepower are quiet.

Sat next to one right now with a open case and cant hear it. Its also quiet when stressing this system.

its looking like an AX may be on the cards then

just seen the anandtech review linked and it confirms my thoughts
There is no noise at low load (or idle), and it's only when we approach 50% load that the fan begins to spin. With a 750W rating, that means you need to draw at least 375W before you get any noise from the PSU, and even a draw of 600W (80%) results in just 25dB(A)--hardly anything to worry about. Overall the cooling concept is nearly the same as the Seasonic X-series. Of course, it could be quieter at 110% overload, but you normally don't reach this level (or want to!); it's just nice to see that there is an output reserve available.

Just what sort of components would even require 600W of power? Short of running 10+ HDDs, an overclocked i7-920 (essentially i7-965 at 3.33GHz) and two GTX 580 GPUs in SLI with a single SSD maxed out at a punishing 777W... but that's wall power. Even at 90% efficiency you'd still only pull 700W from the PSU, and that's with our worst-case Furmark load. In other words, short of tri-SLI, insane overclocking, and/or tons of HDDs the AX750 should be able to handle anything you throw at it.

anyone got a competitor for that?

what are the cables like on that supply?

you know who the oem is?

Its Seasonic, the cables are partially modular (24pin ATX, 4+4pin ATX, 8pin EPS, 6pin and 6+2pin PCI-E, three SATA, four molex and a floppy connector). so theres a few attached that cant be removed.
