So pondering through eBay i saw something.... A Fualty Enermax Psu
So the description was that it was a Enermax Galaxy 850watt that was having issues
He said : works fine for general computing but as soon as he turned on a game it would overheat and shut down
So for £5 +postage i thought the worst its going be is a capacitor or transistor and its far superior to my icute (almost double the size, and branded and runs twice as cool

So now here is my "problem" i checked all the voltages with a multimeter and its kicking out what it should
so i take it apart to check for bad parts
cant identify any
test it with my pc
and i now have prime 95 (large fft for max power consuption) running
i also have furmark xtreme burn for max power consumption running
and...... all voltages are spot on
just what i find weird is both the cards its been tested on (previus owner had a 560ti) and my own 5830 both have the same power consumption, So basicly i think ive picked up a £5 power supply far superior to my icute

Any thoughts (will post a picture of it running later)

Looks like you've finally gotten a good deal...

pretty proud of this one, considering it was ebayed (i have more than enough money to mess around with this time) :) going to clean it up and probably sell or give my icute to a friend who had his £2.50 car boot 600watt psu blown up by his gtx 280

as long as you get a good replacement PSU then that sounds like a good plan. however, i dont mean to be rude, but i have my doubts that you will get a good replacement

Wait until 6 months later when it blows up. :D

if its fine now its not going in 6 months, Hmmm no faults Enermax (very good brand) absolute tank compared to the icute (witch i have run a gtx 280 sli on to stress test the psu with furmark and p95... guess what its fine)
and this psu runs twice as cold as the icute as well... don't really think im going wrong here to be honest

Generally i dont just judge psu's by there branding, as someone recommends a single railed xfx psu, quite frankly ive seen over 20 in the past 6 months on ebay as faulty, this shows there obviously not very good quality, ive seen no enermax's till mine... and it worked :)

I'm guessing that: If the problem is that it overheats, it requires more cooling? Or was it just the previous muppet, I meant, owner :p

Still, this shall make another great thread of mishap :D

but it doesnt overheat, the seller doesnt know what hes talking about
its running very cool power supplys generally dont overheat, and even so this psu is rated to do the full 850watt 24/7 @ a tempriture of 50oc (like high room temp.ect)
its running fine
no misshpas here :D

That doesnt mean that it wont go pop, ive had several enermax psu's go pop, and a brand new seasonic. Still, if it does indeed last a good while, it could well turn out to be a bargain.

generally when things go "pop" then its a transistor and having a multimeter and a soldering iron ect i can repair these very easily and with a psu like this its defiantly worth it.
A high quality psu can pop at any time as you mentioned a brand new seasonic, bet you didn't see that coming? :)

xfx are rebardned seasonic iirc. Very good quality PSU's.

Good find there, but you've had it what - two days? The seller wouldnt get rid of it without some cause, so frankly i'd have been a bit wary of plugging my kit into something someone else branded as faulty.

That being said, if it does work, then great.

Oh Reaper, you had to make me do it :p
