Details at the usual places www.theverge.com etc.

US only at the moment which is a shame.

Stream or download straight from the browser- no need to install 'gTunes'! Nearly all the big labels are signed up which was the main hurdle.

I've been using Google Music for a while and its great to have your music synced online and to listen to it anywhere with a internet connection.

Now to be able to purchase music through it has to be a great thing.

Zune...?

Doesn't sync your music in the cloud but then neither does iTunes. Zune has the benefit of unlimited music if you subscribe though.

Also Amazon have a very similar service and have had for a while (I think).

Over time, probably. At the moment, not at all.

Zune has to be my favourite music software though, it looks brilliant. I was pleasantly surprised when I installed it for my Omnia 7.

Hmm, maybe, many of my friends are using Google Music.
Well, I always like free music, got many with enolsoft mp3 converter and from Amazon. ;)

I got it working but it seems to download offline music to the internal memory as opposed to the SD card which makes it all but useless on my Desire

I'd sign up for it using the 'hack' method, but something tells me that when it finally does roll out over here that because the US service is linked to my EU account, that i'll have issues of some sort. So im holding fire me. :p

Either way though, cant wait for it to come out over here!
iTunes eco-system annoys me now and i dont personally feel its as strong anymore. Perhaps more streamlined into one app, but certainly no advantages when it comes to abilities.
GoogleMusic is exactly what I've been after for my phone, one place to buy tunes, cloud sync'd and available everywhere. That'll do me nicely thank you! :D

Google are a bit fragmented with all there different services at the moment but once they get them all together they will be one very complete package!

When and if. When I got the tablet people were saying go android they'll have their own version of iTunes imminently, half a year later. They still have pretty much nothing. Certainly useless for a media device, unless you download illegally or rip your own films.

Even when they do get movies & tv for sale, will it be cross compatible with windows like iTunes and Zune. Otherwise it's still pointless. Why purchase media you can't play on your tv at home.

I certainly made the right choice going iPad.

If they had something comparable to iTunes, android would have probably won me over with the reduced price tag.

And the longer they leave things like this, the harder it's going to get with Windows 8 on the horizon and everything that will bring with it.

Not even close, for a start iTunes & Zune have far far more than purely music.

Zune has a little problem in that it has little to no market share- at least not yet. At it's peak Apple were selling ~55m iPod a year Google will sell 300m Android devices next year and that is on top of the 200m+ that they have sold to date. So in that context, IMO, it really is the first time that iTunes has a competitor with a realistic changes of breaking it's strangle hold on the music industry.
