What does this parking sign mean?

I always thought no return meant no returning to your vehicle during that time.

/facedesk

I was with a friend the other week and she asked the same question, she also thought you couldn't return to your car for 2 hours!

Always knew what it ment but once she mentioned it I could see how its a little confusing!

:p

how on earth is it confusing, only an utter moron (or in fairness a woman) could possibly misconstrue the intended meaning of any road sign.

The ones that get me are " <--- except buses"

So does that mean only buses? or anything but buses?
Whatever the sign says applies to all vehicles, except buses

e.g. No Entry - except buses = You can't enter this road, but buses can.

Or somebody who doesn't drive and doesn't care? :)

I'm confident that the target audience that my post was aimed at is entirely correct

people that don't drive and don't care about driving:

a) aren't very likely to read the motors forum
b) won't bother looking at a road sign in the first place, ergo by not reading it they can't misconstrue it.

One of my friends lives on a long street that used to have 5-6 bays on each side of the road, on Saturdays me and my mates used to have to move our cars every <120mins from bay to bay when we were all round his, we used to work our way down the street until 5pm when the parking limitations ended.

The council got fed up with us exploiting it in the end and altered the road marking to turn the street into one giant bay per side. Now we have to park on another street (apart from the first guy there who gets the driveway).

I remember thinking I was a bit dyslexic for a while when I was first learning to drive. Saw these signs, and thought for a good couple of weeks that it said "Expect buses"

"Well duh.. it's a road..." :(

So because i don't drive and never bothered to learn the meaning of signs i have no need to know the meaning of, i'm a moron. Cool!

The point is most signs, particularly ones WITH WRITING, are self explanatory. To understand the meaning of them the only thing you need to 'learn' is English.

Yep. But like i say that's how i read the sentence as a child, it made sense, and was never taught differently.

No return to vehicle within 2 hours.
No return after leaving within 2 hours.

It isn't written as the full sentence, it could mean either one.

To a child, maybe, but surely as an adult it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to not allow anyone to return their car within 2 hours, thus it can logically only have one meaning. You don't have to be 'taught' the correct meaning, it's glaringly obvious.

Yeah, when I was a kid I thought that "inflammable" was the opposite of flammable and meant "in-possible-to-inflame", found out the truth the hard way alas.

It all makes perfect sense now I'm older ofc.

To anyone with a modicum of common sense it is ;)

Given that, I'm not entirely sure why you would actively care about a sign's meaning (or lack thereof if you are bloody minded) as you don't have a car, therefore you clearly don't need to park it

if the shoe fits

Pretty sure airports have minimum stay parking?
Clearly i'm not alone in the matter but i did forget that to post in motors you do have to be 100% perfect in every aspect of life.
Oh well
