Anyone in here have a Crossbow ??

I Think one of the guys who lived near me had one.
Stephen Griffiths i believe he was called although if im right in thinking he founded his own club for the Crossbow.

That's my Bear Charge compound at the moment. I've only been doing it a few months so I didn't want to spend a fortune. For the price though, this is a really good bow.

I don't understand sights on guns.

How come the bullet hits where the sight is aiming and not slightly lower down, how does that work.

Serious question btw. Or do you actually aim slightly upwards irl and its just in games bullets hit where the sight is pointing.

You calibrate it so that for a set distance it will hit where the centre of the sight is. You then make an adjustment up or down for closer or further targets.

Or if its a moving target you need to lead ;)

And agreed recurve > compound - men dont need telescopic sights :p. Surprised you went straight to compound, find most prefer to learn recurve then move to compound when they are getting old/their preference as its easier to handle at full draw...

ps3ud0

Crossbows; properly powerful weapon. Not a lot of archery clubs welcome them either.

I shoot recurve too. Seb Flute forged plus riser with 44lb Border CXG limbs shooting navigator arrows.

Tried longbow..a lot lighter than they look but physically hard work to shoot with.Didn't get on with them at all. Tried compound too. Made it very easy to shoot well which I guess is part of the attraction. There's still a high level of skill needed to shoot one well but they are far more forgiving for beginners to use.

If so, what make / model.

Do you use it much - where do you use such a thing ? How did you convince people you weren't just a lunatic and weren't about to go running around town with a weapong that could basically go through two people with one shot (and no licence)

Been thinking of buying a decent enough one, and joining a local archery club (that also has a crossbow night) But am wondering if it's just one of those thing you buy and never actually use after the initial outlay & couple of weeks of drooling over it.

Forgot to add to my earlier post - that compound crossbow is a Barnett Jackel with a draw weight of 150lb.

for club shooting I believe you are not allowed anything greater than 100lb;

I believe this is a good crossbow for that purpose:

I've got a 150 lb compound crossbow that I've had for about two years. Never got the chance to shoot it much because the local archery clubs don't like em. Also if you find a nice quiet out of the way place to shoot it some nosey so and so always comes past walking his dog. They always take an unhealthy interest, call their dog and walk away looking as though they are going to phone the old bill and tell them they've just spotted a serial killer in the woods.

I took the string off a while ago and I'm keeping it for when the zombie apocalypse starts.

Imho you either need to find an archery club that will let you shoot it or a friend or relative who has some private land and will let you use it there. Or hang it on the wall as an ornament or something.

In hindsight I should have bought a toy gun that fires small plastic pellets... oh hang on...
