One of my gpus has died on my 4870x2 and that happend right after I installed the new drivers for BF3. Gonna wait till after crimbo to see what 7000 series brings.

8800GTX was never a cool card. It was a powerhouse of its era and had the heat to go with it.
The 8800GT on the other hand was/is a cool running card. Using one in my secondary rig (as purchased from MM)

2nd 8800GT is only going for £20~£25 in the MM at the moment...and it's not too much slower than the 8800GTX. And you can always sell it again when you are done with it when up upgrade to next gen card.8800 a cool card?it never was,in fact it was one of the hottest cards backed then iirc.
Thanks for the replies guys.Getting a 2nd hand GPU is probably the wisest choice,but I dislike used hardware and the idea of getting a card just for a month.
I will probably order a 570 TFIII and be sad when next gen comes out.It is unfortunate that my card died now
If you really want your card to last, then don't be shortsighted...the next gen cards' GPU are moving onto 28nm process, meaning that it would have lower power consumption and less heat than the current gen's 40nm cards, thus lower temp and in theory longer life-span.

I wouldn't say they was low end, I have two in SLI and max everything at 1080p constantly above 60fps, mind you I do have two of them.
They are great bang for buck cards, I was still getting good frame rates with just one card, would get the odd stutter here and there on BF3, but now it never drops below 60 fps.

You like the others have got it wrong, the Reference 8800gtx dual slot was a fantastic card cool and quiet ! Single slot GT was the hot running card..FACT
We used to run SLI with these , in fact My buddy still has 2 still running cool and sweetly, one of the best GFX cards ever !

I hate to say this mate and talking from experience, your q6600 will bottleneck any of the four cards you are looking at. I went from a q6600 @ 3.00ghz with a gtx 580 to sandybridge with the same 580 and frame rates shot through the roof.
With your q6600 i'd stick to a lower end gpu as you just wont really see the benefit. A gtx 285 would be a good choice but don't know how this would perform in BF3.

I have changed my mind again!I can't seem to find a 570 and I am now looking at the 560 TI Hawk,which is really cheap and according to most reviews I have read it's just a few fps lower than the 570?Or am I missing something?

Well I ordered a 560 Ti Hawk as I couldnt find a 570 TF3.I am not perfectly happy with my purchase,but I believe that it is a decent card and I could add another one next year if I need to.I hope it will be quite an improvement over my 8800GTX.

You must be really unlucky, or have poor tools or something like that. Upgrading my 480 cooler took me a couple of hours end to end including removal of the card and refitting etc. And i'm no expert.
