anyone got a DAB radio with an FM transmitter (so you can play it through your normal car stereo) they use in their car/van etc ?

does the digital signal stay strong when on the move ?

would be ideal if anyone could recommend a specific brand or model

I use the Pure Highway - on most roads its brilliant, select a free FM frequency plug it into the cigarete lighter and enjoy excellent sound quality.

The only area mine struggles with is when i pass through a busy main town full of shops and offices. Its either the closeness of the buildings or the concentration of wifi and other signals.

I have always hated the self transmitters when using an ipod adapter and I can't see how a DAB radio would be bareable through it, surely a cheap head unit with DAB would be worth it?

You can't replace the head unit in many cars these days.
I'm looking at a similar thing as I'd like to listen to things like 5-Live in better quality than AM.

DAB retrofit for my car is stupidly expensive.

I have a DAB radio in my car, I have never used a transmitter in it though. I did recently buy an AUX in for the headunit.

Mine is a very old one but the signal is brilliant, it came with my car and looking at the reciepts was the best part of £300 with installation fees. It is a Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB52, I really cannot fault it and I would definitely consider putting another DAB in my next whenever that might be.

Both my Disco and my Astra have DAB (built-in) and it's great! Signal loss only occurs very occasionally. The improved sound quality and range of stations (e.g. Planet Rock) are the main selling points. :)

Seriously regretting not ordering it on mine. I listen to 5Live a lot and it just didn't register with me until I got in it that I really wanted it.

Got to admit, i love the DAB in mine, i have the AMI interface in my A6 and have hardly even used it yet, there's always something to listen to on DAB. Signal is usually good, sometimes can be a bit dodgy in poor weather where signal is low.

So you don't have DAB, you don't have AUX in? What does your radio actually do? Just CD? If so that is pretty poor show.

CD, AM/FM, iPod interface. It's the Logic 7 system. They didn't put the aux port in until 2007 models.
I agree it's a poor show.

iPod interface? Is that bluetooth or firewire cable thingy? Either way, can that not act as Aux in?

I guess car manufacturers were a bit short sited and didn't know what the standard would be in future, great excuse to make a bit more profit out of the customer as well.
