*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

It's enjoyable so far, but I need to get in a group and do groups stuff. That's what MMOs are about.

Like back in the good old days a massive group kraut dragon hunt.
Is there city building or other guild features?

Got to level 10 as Sith Warrior and am enjoying it much more than i had thought i would. Could never really get into WoW or games like it and usually stick to games like AoC, WAR etc so it's a pleasant surprise.

Think im going to switch over to Jedi side though as i don't plan on playing that side in retail.

I'm a level 4 Jedi Knight at the moment on a US server, couldn't be bothered waiting in the Eng. server queue.

Only thing I don't like so far is that you can't turn off sticky targeting, can you?

I can't enable AA either, any reason?

It's great other than that. Impressed. :)

AA hasn't been implemented, but you can force it in your graphics control panel.

And i think you can turn off sticky targeting.

Loving this, graphics i don't think are all that for the way it runs but otherwise it's very good.

I love that it's different than WoW, i played 5+ years of that and to get a nigh on similar game with lightsabers and so on would make me not want to play.

Level 13 Sith Assassin.

Anyone playing a Tank, if so what class and how is it?

I quite fancy playing a tank but can't get my head around the class options, obvious choice would be a Sith warrior for me but the Sith Inquisitor looks cool, just not sure how the tanking works on that. So any recommendations ??

My first real go at an MMO, and a few of my thoughts. I have played a few MMO's (mainly FTP ones), just to get a "feel" of the type of game SWTOR would be. So my MMO experience is fairly minimal

Firstly, the voice acting. For such a huge game, to have it all voice acted out, really adds to the experience for me. I've played many an RPG and while acting isn't essential, quality voice acting does add to an experience and makes the "stories" believable. So credit where it is due, this is really excellent.

Graphics wise, I knew from trailers, it wasn't going to be ground breaking or realism. But, it didn't have to really. I wouldn't say I am overly dissapointed, because I like the way the game looks generally. While it isn't super high texture detail (certainly up close), it is presented very well. I find things like the lip sync pretty good, and the way your charachter (and others) move and interact is all neatly done. It is quiet tidy in that respect.

I would hope that in the full retail, maybe there is higher res textures. Because your armour/gear can look a bit bland and flat. But overall, I think the way they have gone works.

But graphics and voice acting is one thing, how the game plays is important. And if I am going to shell out for the game, as well as regular monthly subscriptions, then I need to be kept entertained. The game looking/sounding pretty will only keep your attention for so long.

I played up to level 9, and so far, I haven't been bored. That is a plus :D The audio and dialogue, as well as the cut scenes I Have seen so far, make the world and situation I am in believable. And I am only scratching the surface. While many of the quests are go to location A and kill X, what else was people to expect, most I have done seem to have a meaning. Also, some of the quests I have done, are not so Black and White. You have an element of choice about what you want to do, and knowing Bioware, this can and will effect your "personality" and choices of quests in the future.

Which brings me nicely onto the conversations, and more choice of how you want to play. I couldn't help myself going to the Dark Side :D . It just adds another dimension to the game, and your in game persona becomes a little bit more believable. You can respond respectfully, aggressively, or a cautiously (in most cases) meaning you can build up the person you "want" to be. This worked brilliantly in Mass Effect, and it continues here too.

A bit of the technical beta stuff then. I had no CTD's, now DC's, and no issues at all. Lag was minimal, and my FPS stayed pretty solid, only dropping when in a Taxi sometimes. People worrying about this though? New drivers will be out come game release, and a game of this size may well get some special treatment. I am sure come release (or very soon after) the game will work much better, and be much smoother.

Overall, I am impressed. As a fairly MMORPG "noob", I haven't done a lot of this sort of thing, so the majority of it is new to me. My sister is a big WOW player though, and she was helping me out with some of the finer details. I can see why people who have played WOW can say it is similar, and maybe feel like they have done all this sort of thing before.

Overall, I am impressed. Impressed enough to buy it? Yes, I probably am. I was intending to make a purchase, and it would have took a poor beta showing to turn me away. I like Star Wars, I like RPG's, I like online gaming. This seems like the perfect game for me, and I can't wait to get going "for real".

Esc -> Preferences, then go into "Controls" and the option "Deselect target upon clicking the terrain", if that's what you need. Auto loot and area loot is in the same window which are also awesome :)

Brilliant, I don't know how I missed that! Thanks :)

Only played up to level 5 and I really like it. You can tell it's similar to WoW. The GUI, area layout, towns, NPCs etc, all look like they've been taken straight out of WoW and given different skins. Even the little XP number that pops up after you've killed a mob is the exact same colour / front as WoW haha.

Never really been into the whole background / PvE thing, so I usually skip cut scenes. But either way, they look good, which is an added bonus.

Graphically, it's definitely better than WoW. Not Crysis 2 by any means, but it still looks good with everything put up to the max. It's a MMORPG, not a cutting edge FPS so who cares?

The main problem is the end game. If it turns into a WoW fest, basically grinding and raiding to get slightly better gear, then it's going to get boring very fast.

I'm definitely buying this on day one, but I won't be hardcoring it.

EDIT: Seems like pretty much everyone on the Sith side is choosing Inquisitor. I thought the server would be filled with Warriors, as they're the equivalent of Jedi Knights.

I'm enjoying it so far, however, I'm a little bit sad that it's very WoW like. Not because WoW is bad, I love it, however I was hoping for some originality from BioWare.

Exactly what I thought.

As I said above, I like it, but it feels like WoW with a different storyline.

Do you have a icon in your top right corner?, think it should say pending or something, sometimes completed quests which you still gotta get the reward from get put there when a cinematic comes on
