*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

I'm not sure about this game, I've been excited about it ever since I heard of it in 2008 and while I enjoyed quite a bit of the beta I can't help but feel the tired MMO format glorified with voice acting.
Yes the voice acting is nice, and goes fantastically for class missions, but for every other mission where everyone standing around 'has a problem' and needs you to kill 10 of these or pick up that, by level 25 the whole dialogue for summing that up to me got very tedious and I failed to hold interest (playing as Sith Juggernaut).

To me this feels more like a single player game (like Mass Effect/KotoR) but crippled by MMO elements (a lot of private instancing), such as the typical bogstandard go here kill that type quests, and the fact the game world feels so 'vacant' and dull somehow. Again the class quests are enjoyable but I hear that stops around 35~.
I've not tried flashpoints yet but the other group content hasn't been too enjoyable, just seems like a slow high-health mob grind.
That said PvP was very fun as i'm a competitive player and that's what I enjoy the most in an MMO. Voidstar was fantastic to play, Huttball I kept losing sound in which threw me off and Alderaan was nice but as it's beta completley lacked teamwork so didn't do too well with that.

While the instancing makes sense for questing purposes, it was problematic in the beta as there were a lot of times I was unable to group with people since they were in another instance, and attempting to switch didn't work/put me on a 30 minute timer which sucked - but i'm sure that'll get sorted prior to release.

On top of that for a game that's been in development for quite some time, a lot of the animations feel very clunky and outdated - though I like how characters turn to face eachother automatically in combat, aswell as occasional sync'd parrying.

Left feeling a bit dissapointed in this game and not sure if i'll keep my pre order :( I know i'd enjoy PvP late game but I don't think I can justify paying monthly for just that.

Just my view, not to rub anyone the wrong way who enjoy the game.

Any idea if there will be an 'ultra' graphics option in the full game or is this the best it will look? Im not complianing just some things seem blurry and so on!

ive heard mention of higher res textures but i dont think theres any dev posts to back it up so it could be wishful thinking.

the build of the game where playing is only a few days old anyway so dont expect a "miracle patch" on the day of the launch

So after playing over the weekend i can say that i feel kinda the same as the above poster, I dont think its a bad game, But for someone thats not that interested in the story and just wants to kill stuff the dialog gets old fast..

I played some pvp with my brother which i thought was ok, There was some things that are kind of annoying, They should put in level brackets for example. But actually my biggest annoyance was the camera locking, My god that annoys me.

My brothers biggest problem is the UI for healers, Most of the time the health bars dont refresh so you cant tell who is taking damage, He finds it hard to tell who he is targetting because all you get is a green ring under there feet unlike a arror over there head in previous games. He also didnt like only having one heal at level 10 but i told him he gets a lot more when he levels, But he has to put up with getting pretty much owned untill then :p

Played the beta for ages on Friday night, had played it before at Eurogamer expo so it had lost some of the wow factor. Still, thoroughly enjoyed it.

However, I was a little disappointed with the performance I got considering I can smash BF3 on Ultra but, meh.

I really hope it isnt, im not expecting for everything to be fixed on launch but i just cant understand what the hell they have been doing since the start of testing, it must have been a right mess!!! If this is the final build we are playing then i will be very very disapointed. :(

I liked the fact at how it askes me how many crashes i had before i exit the game, then when i submit the form it crashes lol

I didn't have a single crash though. This is where PC developers get a lot of stick - how could you release it like this, didn't you bother testing at all, etc. etc.

The whole point is to catch bugs that only show up with specific types of hardware.

That likely just means it's very near the gold version that was sent out for manufacturing. I've seen MMO's with 1 to 2 gig patches on launch day so there's still a lot that could change/improve.

No, but it's likely that they will continually patch it when it launches, every few days or so.

To be fair, there aren't many problems with it. I've only encountered a couple of bugs really.

I never said i was expecting miracles but a patch on the beta client is no indication of what changes are in the works on internal builds.

Edit - anyone else finding the head gear changing your characters voice a bit silly? Running round on a Sith atm who's voice now sounds like he's speaking through a walkie-talkie and his head piece is just a high collar.

Hadn't thought of that, turns out it does change the voice back to normal :)

Well at least you have bit of a choice then. Although it would still be bit of a pain if you have an amazing looking bit of headgear that you want to show off but have to put up with a crappy voice or hide the amazing helmet.

Wasn't impressed at first but it grew on me, in the end i had :-

Lvl 11 Sith Assassin
Lvl 11 Jedi Senitel
Lvl 11 Jedi Sage

I liked the Sith Inq but wasn't that keen on the Jedi Knight, by lvl 11 i had a lot of moves but didnt see a lot of different animations and then i made my Jedi Consular and loved it, i just love being able to use the force or use my lightsaber, i also couldnt get enough of throwing objects at people. Since i made my first char i was searching for a damn robe with a hood, i went the FP and didnt win it cause i was dead and someone looted and no matter how hard i tried i couldnt get a damn hood but on my sage last night i finally got one and then i felt like a proper Jedi it was awesome.

I really liked the Flashpoint aswell, the convo system is good and you get to make different choices like if someone lives or dies etc
