30/11 Strikes.

Ooh, someone using the word "communist" as though it's some kind of evil. There's a surprise on these forums.

Oh, and another thing, I don't think you understand the definition of communism.

Or are you confusing communism with what has happened in China and the USSR - which was a failed attempt at implementing communism but which wasn't actually communism in essence.

This basically, so I put my hand up to say it was probably not the right reference to make.

and closed shops, restrictive practices, wildcat strikes, resisting new technology, printing, containerisation to name but a few.

I worked on a site in the 1970's as a junior engineer and there was a day of action because we were told to carry a hammer to knock in setting out pins. It was a joiners tool we were told and we did not have the cards for it.

And who are now propping up bad maths by holding the nation to ransom.

Yeah?

Guess that we should let them do as they please now then. Just because an organisation is founded out of best intentions does not stop it from changing over time.

They have changed nothing about already accrued entitlement, only moving forwards from now, exactly in line with the same employment law that applies in all sectors.

That's not true either though is it? The Tories said in 2010:

"Indexation of pensions in payment is an established part of pensions legislation. The Conservative Party has no plans to change the current index-linking of public sector pensions in payment. We agree with the view that the right to indexation of pensions already accrued is part of the accrued pension rights and those rights will be protected."

But they went ahead and changed the index-linking of pensions in payment to current pensioners anyway!

Unions, killers of mining,.British owned car manufacturing, steelmaking. supporters of excessive deaths in the nhs, bullies of those who disagree with them, economically incompetent and perverting democracy via the labour party. what a vital component of society.

they didn't technically change the index linking, the specific measure of inflation has never been mentioned in the definition. The index linking has not been altered, the measure of inflation was.

yes, I am aware I am being a pedant.

Hyperbolic and at times strange dribble. However I nonetheless applaud you, PM Dolph, for consistency in this viceral dislike for trade unions and the British disasters you ascribe to them.

As an aside, what is your overall position on party funding?

Nah, in revisionist history land Maggie was actually trying to do the regions a favour but the unions messed everything up by resisting. So it was OK when she closed all of the local industry and did nothing to help replace it, cuz they had it coming for opposing the government. Take that, British scum!

well, we had a highly biased pro union quote that contained hyperbole and lies...

As an aside, what is your overall position on party funding?

caps on donations from individuals, corporations and unions, reform of union political funds and interim state funding for an adjustment period.

That is not propaganda, its red herringitis, a tactic used by unions and governments alike to try and get you to take you eye off the ball !

My impression is that it runs deep in Unison. I sent a stinky email to my Union rep as regards myself and a colleague not getting our ballots, followed by a letter from Unison a week later saying "Ooops. Technical Error". Summed up the email said "Bad form. No wonder it was only 29% turnout".

The email back was "That's unfortunate. It's the same turnout as voted in the General Election".

AND? THAT'S NOT WHAT I ASKED! Grrr.

We've had a weekend for as long as we've had Christianity in this country - I believe that predates unions.

Current working hours are capped by the EU not unions.

Factory reformers in the UK responsible for opposing child labour did so from a moral/religious point of view and included aristocrats etc...

Whilst I don't doubt that unions have certainly played their part in increasing wages for their members and improving conditions/health and safety it isn't like we all live in villages/towns with only one industry. No one is forced to work down t'pit anymore - unions are becoming outdated these days IMO.
