OcUK Rolling Road Day 12.5 @ PowerStation (Tewksbury) - December 17th 2011

Will probably spectate this one, no point putting either car on the rollers and nothings changed on them engine wise.

pending it not being 14 feet deep with snow I'm up for this: Anyone fancy a car share down? Makes the 6 hours driving less boring :)

I may come to this, and may (if anyone is interested in being deafened (sp?)) put it on the dyno, but nothing has changed since my last PS run, or my Eurospec run, so kinda no point slapping it on the dyno..

Feel like I haven't seen you lot for a little while now :)

Free pint you say?..... I'm in. :D
No car to run though. :p

It was a good excuse to post in here anyway so I keep updated with things... ;)

The errors of copying and pasting from the last RR I organised.

I am now changing the rules, the new rule is your all buying me a drink and then paying for the hotel room for me to sleep of the binge drinking. :D

With only 2 full weekends to go, I'm not sure the car will be mapped well enough to run on the dyno safely? Having said that, I could always chuck in tonnes of fuel and retard the timing loads just to get a basic idea.

I guess what I'm saying is that I'd really, really like to run but I'm still not sure. I'd say shift me along to the running list but be aware there is a fairly large chance that I will have to pull out.

The thing is you can get it on the rollers with the det cans etc so you can see how it's going? It won't die from a little bit of det! As they will abort the run.

Depends on their det cans, people say that the usual knock detection methods do not work on the MX-5 because there is so much noise, you either can't hear it or you can only hear it when it gets bad.

More reading required on that front I think :)

Well, from what I have read a lot of knock sensors don't reliably work - but that's just going on what other people have said. The engines are famously noisy (mechanically) though...

Yeah, I'd hope so :)

TBH if it makes it all the way to the RR without blowing holes in the block then it'll be alright to run :D

Horse ****

If people would stop buying these stupid electronic "knock boxes" and actually listened to the engine and what it's doing then det is as plain as a con-rod smacking you in the face.

Perfect example today on the Proton I was mapping, customer had his 600 quids worth of "knock analyser" hooked up and listening from the passenger seat. Me with my bit of copper tube bolted to the head..
8600 rpm.. woah there dobbin, little bit too advanced I said.
Customer (also a mapper so he knows what he's listening for) didn't hear a thing
We swapped cans and all I could hear Was Bzbzbzbzbzbzbzbzbzbzbzbzbzbbbzzzzzzbbbzbzzzzzzzzzzz like a radio out of tune.
WTF is the point in that!
anyway, enough on that as I seem to have gone off on a rant about it..
Two weeks not enough time to get it mapped properly? WTF.
What's he doing... One load cell a day? :p

The SC isn't even hooked up to the car yet, and I'm still short of a few bits!

IF I'M LUCKY I'll have all of the bits in time for the weekend, and if the weather holds off a bit I will hopefully get it assembled, but I'm not really wanting to rush it.

Knowing my luck, I'll be working on the car on the Friday night trying to get it all together - and that's why I wont have time to map the thing ;)

AH Supercharger...
Is this a new(er) MX-5 with flyby wire and MAF?
If so then yea, you're going to need those two weeks and probably more. :p

Nope, a MK2 with a good old mechanical cable. It does have a MAF but I've fitted a piggyback ECU with a MAP sensor so all is well. Hopefully I'll be up around the 190ish bhp mark with a rudimentary map and without any intake cooling whatsoever (yet).

If your there with it sorted I will turn up and you can take me for a spin, help me make up my mind.
