Silly things you used to believe

I think the point is they break sciences understanding of how make things fly, but our understanding is obvious wrong.

No, just the models used to explain bee flight were too simplistic. There is a lot of complex aerdynamic effects going on. Bees exploit turbulence over rough wing surfaces and take advanatge of wing-tip vortices to increase lift.

There really is no mystery anymore. I have worked with people that researched and published scientific articles on bee flight.

I used to believe that when I was an adult I'd be able to do what I want when I want. Yeah right! :(

Yes, but I was merely stating that science says they shouldn't be able to fly, thus science cannot answer everything.

Everyone knows the answer to life, the universe and everything is 42 anyway

but they say it makes sense now due to the 'flick' at the end of the wing beat that gives it some ridiculous thrust boost...

or something...

i believed in aliens being real around the age of 7 when i watched aliens on tv one night and scared myself ****less

Not a great example, the flaw of the scientific method is that it requires a clearly testable hypothesis, and consistent cause and effect behaviour, and this is a setup that is not applicable to all questions.

When I was young was told that the white seeds in peppers are poisonous so when i prepped them I’d clean the very last one, imagine my surprise at the ripe age of 25 when my GF laughed at me.....

And what is this talk of Santa not being real? Then wtf ate all those biscuits?

If I was in the truman show, people would be very sickened and bored walking my life as a tv show lol.

Masterbating 6 times a day can't be very entertaining for someone else to watch lol

No, 10 years ago people applying simple scientific models to bee flight could not explain how bees could generate sufficient lift. Now, using more complex aerodynamic models and careful aerodynamic studies, we know exactly how a bee flies.

I am not denying that science cannot answer everything but this is a a terrible and flawed example.

There are many things science cannot find an answer to and often therefore just skim over it, Like for instance the Mass and light speed barrier (this is not taking into account the recent discovery that a neutrino can travel faster than light as it is currently heavily disputed), They have no answer on how directly after the big bang the expansion would have had to be faster than the speed of light, how can this be if mass travelling the speed of light is impossible?. They just skim past it.

I was also convinced that all parents birthdays were next to each others because my parents birthdays are 7 and 8th November, I remember thinking that it must be hard to find a wife if they have to have their birthday a day after yours.

When did OCUk readers becomes Spiritualist hippies that no longer believe in science ?

I used to believe that grown-ups acted their age. Imagine my surprise to grow up ad find that the workplace is just the playground except with more hair and fewer crisps.

Yup, you're so right, I'm still getting my head around it...

Expansion was of the medium of space, that doesn't mean anything had to "travel" faster than the speed of light.
