It's Spee.

If you put stuff in front of *ie it turns it into *ee.

E.g.
Die -> Birdie
Nie -> Beanie
Tie -> Bootie
Rie -> Brie
Lie -> Mollie

etc
etc

I must say I've always read it as 'Spee'. Maybe it's the Italian words for spies?
