We're going to be stuck with the choice between i3 and FX4 at the £100 mark soon, a dual core with HT versus a quad core that performs like a dual core... no more great value quads.

A dark age is upon us. :(

The 960T is near enough the same thing, go buy one and try unlocking it, you might even end up with a sub-£100 hex core processor.

Yeah it's a shame but inevitable really. The new FX CPUs aren't worse for everyday use, sometimes better, but in specific instances the Phenom II's are faster, and with the price you can pick them up second hand, a bit of a bargain if you need a gaming processor or a second PC workhorse for encoding etc. Combined with the mobo prices it's a great cheap setup if you can get one. I've used a few different AM3/AM2+ CPUs over the last couple of years and they've all been very good. I'm going Intel now though as Sandy Bridge does actually edge it on value for money if you're buying new, for my purposes at least.

Mine cost £95 and is currently unlocked to x6 and running happily @ 4ghz.. They are superb..

Now that is tempting. Whilst I have a AM3+ board, BD is just not worth it atm. Problem is that my new 990fx mobo does not seem to like clocking my Phenom past 3.8, when my CHIV would go past 4 with ease (till it blew up).

I'm using an 870 AM3+ MSI board that I picked up today, Unlocking was just one option in the bios then I simply set 16x250 everything auto and it seems happy so far..

AMD A6 3650 - True quad core that costs less then £100.

a true quad-core with decent integrated graphics and the potential to overclock an absolute ton as well! :D
