From 2012 my salary will increase....

The best thing about Switzerland is that despite the high incomes and high prices, fuel is actually cheaper absolutely than in the UK. This means that the taxi rank outside the train station, instead of being made up of Citroen Berlingos and Octavia diesels like in the UK, is made up of V6 and V8 petrol Mercedes-Benzs

Bliss.

Think of it this way, in nearly 7 years of working I have never once received a pay rise that didn't come as a consequence of promotion.

To be honest, I'm not really complaining, I'm happy to be in a job. I just haven't had a significant lift in pay over the past 5 years. Ah well, onwards and upwards, got to keep at it and all that!

Consumer Prices in Switzerland are 37.21% higher than in United Kingdom
Consumer Prices Including Rent in Switzerland are 41.15% higher than in United Kingdom
Rent Prices in Switzerland are 56.66% higher than in United Kingdom
Restaurant Prices in Switzerland are 28.06% higher than in United Kingdom
Groceries Prices in Switzerland are 52.11% higher than in United Kingdom
Local Purchasing Power in Switzerland is 45.42% higher than in United Kingdom
Chances of threads on Weather or Brothers sexual relations is 20000% than in United Kingdom

Local Purchasing Power in Switzerland is 45.42% higher than in United Kingdom
That si the key figure, taking into account average salaries and average living costs, you have effectively 45.42% more money than the UK on average.

So the average wage is about £68k (which is three times the average salary in the UK) or in Zurich it is almost £100,000 which is top 10% in the UK.....

Something must be getting lost in translation here......

no, thats about right for average jobs.

I'd get the violin out but it's your choice. When are you coming back to the land of the earning?

Student time already? I thought you were ditching things to go back in early Jan? So, how does it feel mixing with the great (read : terrible) unwashed (read : contaminated)?

;)

I formally begin my new job/study on 30th January......I've never been so apprehensive about something in my life tbh.

I wanted to take some time out to spend with my boy and the severance package I got was pretty good so a couple of months off seemed practical, especially with Chrismas coming up.

I am relieved not to be part of something I wasn't really happy with anyway so although I will be earning significantly less than before it is all good.....:)

Isn't that just Europe in general? Nearly everywhere I've been they have nice new Mercs as taxis. Even places like Gran Canaria has better taxis than the UK, just there they were nice old Mercs :)

In my experience they are all diesels. Switzerland is the only place I've had a standard taxi rank cab be an S500!

Pretty much all taxi's here in Norway are E350 CDI's with a few CGI models as well.

Certainly better than the crap you normally find in England, an old Xsara Picasso or something :p

The learner driver cars are pretty awesome as well. BMW X5's, E-Class coupes and what have you.
