Is it worth spending the extra £40 on an i7-2700k, or would I be better of just getting myself a 2600k? Is there a noticeable performance boost or is it negligible?

You'll need some serious cooling for the 2700k, it's a really hot chip when pushed hard!

Personally I'd go for it if you can afford it as it is a faster chip.

I suspect (not based on anything concrete, based on pure speculation) that these are binned versions of the same chip, so you're likely to get a much higher stable clock with the 2700k IF you can manage the heat properly.

2700K's tend to use slightly less vcore when oveclocked, and therfore should run cooler.
Only worth getting over 2500K if you're gonna be using the HT for encoding purposes.

If your going for a 26/2700K get the 2700K. I ran a 2600K overclocked at 4.6 under a TRUE. Wouldn't say they are hot chips..

think ocuk are trying to push the 2700k atm only a tenner of difference on here (that said i paid less than £200 for a retail 2600k this week so god knows whats going on

As far as I know the 2600k has ben discontinued and the 2700k just has a slightly increased multiplyer, otherwise all the same. The 2600K can be found cheap as retailers try to clear their stock.

Humm for less then £200 ? You sure ? Or did they add like £30 to deliever it to you or did you have some voucher for a promotion ? I can't find one online for less then £227.99 and even then it is out of stock so they can price it whatever they like in that situation. Once it's back in stock it will be again the normal price. Did you buy it new or was it an open box (B grade) ?

Also the 2600k is not EOL .. It is just another CPU in their range and they had the 2700K ready incase Bulldozer was a good chip... and to take some of the limelight off AMD's release and to allow customers to focus back on Intel.

If you can email me a link to where I would love to know if it was a new processor and not a B grade or 2nd hand or you don't have to pay VAT. Thanks.

i dont understand that, i know your probably just going to turn round and say "oh well its just the rules" but why? surely overclockers want to do something if competitors are offering products at lower prices?? surely they want to build a reputation for being one of the cheapest suppliers of pc components? (which they sure havent got now, the only component i bought from overclockers was the case and psu because it was on sale.)
i would love to purchase all my stuff from overclockers, but unfortunately they just arent the cheapest anymore, not even close. and the fact that people are threatened with bans for enquiring about where is the cheapest and even naming competitors can lead to a ban, the forum just appears to be ran by childish immature overclockers nuts that need to grow up and face the fact that people shop where it is cheapest.
the people within the forum are great, they generally are very helpful, but those that run and enforce it arent. rant over.

obviously some people just prefer companies they have used, i trust overclockers, i am happy with them, but i think their prices these days arent as cheap as they used to be, they used to be one of the cheapest on the market! now they are hardly worth looking at, which is a crying shame. i only really use the forum now, its great for advice and stuff.

I dont think there prices r that bad, at least i have not seen anything that much cheaper that its worth trying another place, no point trying somewhere new for 5 quid saving, when i know and trust ocuk, though it would be nice if there was a price comparison site for computer parts :D

I don't think that's their goal actually. I view OcUK like newegg. Large, reliable, fast, the first to have stock, and with occasional great deals.

havent they just been bought by some giant german company, case king or something?
but yeah i think your right, they are good for stock usually. and trust worthy.

Quoted for horrific grammar and sadly truth.

I don't shop with them anymore, you pay a premium just for shopping with them and the CS is just baffling...

I just priced up the following system I'm about to put together at overclockers UK.

3930k oem
ASRock extreme 4 X79 mobo
16Gb Corsair Dominator 1866mhz
Corsair H100 cooler
Vertex 3 128gb SSD
Corsair TX850M psu
Fractal Arc MIDI case

Came to £1177 which is only £23 more than the other place that's supposed to be far far cheaper. So for me at least there's not much wrong with OC's prices specially when you factor in their excellent reputation for customer service & superfast delivery.
