Mate got arrested for saying the 'N' word to his mate - they're both black.

This reminds me of a video I watched on youtube the other day, which is offensive.

White woman on the tube in London, sitting down in a cabin full of black people, she had her little kid on here, then she bursts out shouting at the whole cabin telling them to go back to their countries where they belong, there taking our jobs, calling the whole cabin the N word.

I was in shock that no one piled her right there on that seat.

crazy woman goes racist, now that is offensive! Two black people calling each other N, this sort of stuff happens on movies and music videos.

I fail :(.

I don't get why the law should protect people from being "offended", that is all it is really. I have mentioned loads that offending people never really does anything and if they are offended they should just man up.
Also I still find it terrible that Police in this day and age still don't understand that everyone has the right to film, as stated on the Metropolitan Police website.

After seeing the video you don't see the original offence, so it's difficult to comment. The guy filming was getting too close to the officers which is why he was pushed back, he wasn't assaulted.

Must have been from the nincompoop family of words to justify arrest, either nincompoop, nincompoopery or nincompoopish i'd guess.

It's OK, I just realised that I do in fact now have an iPhone. As of yesterday morning. Double fail for both of us. :p

No. Me and my mates at university call each other it all the time as banter! 4 of us are white, 5 are black. We don't care because we just have a laugh and they call us honkie and everything too, its all good.

People just far too sensitive and need to get over stuff in my opinion.

Don't live stuck in the past, open up that alcohol, let it flow, and bag yourself a hot chica ;)

Life is too short to be getting caught up on the past, its not what Malcolm would have wanted. He would have wanted black and white people to embrace it together, to water down its meaning. Only when people get over it will it ever stop being a derogative term.

It's always hilarious when people with no legal training whatsoever and no realisation of what the police can and can't do, claim that the police have overstepped the mark and have assaulted them.

You can pretty much guarantee that any time someone cries police brutality, they didn't do much wrong.

I think you are missing the big picture, regardless whether the two black lads find it acceptable or not, there could easily of been other people there who do find it offensive.

Well, it depends. The fact that 'they're both black', shouldn't matter. If a white man calls a black man a 'n', then it tends to be taken as a very offensive racial slur - even if it is just a joke. However, it is often seen as perfectly acceptable between two black people. I don't think there should be any difference in the treatment for saying the word, regardless of race....

Wrong. As a white person I will admit black women are hotter so with them I let certain stuff slide.

Mhmmm, Christina Milian, come@me! :p

So they're both black and I take it young. Older gentleman that are black do not like that word. So even though your mate was never trying to insult the other guy he still is insulting just about every other black person around.

Overkill to arrest in my opinion but perhaps they're trying to make this to be an example to put that word at rest.

I don't get this offensive thing though. It's very subjective. For example, at the moment it is relativity common that extreme feminists criticise men in the media or in public. However it is socially acceptable for the most part. The fact of the matter is that society deems what it is offensive or not and this causes massive problems, if we looked it at objectively any kind of discrimination should be unacceptable in the eyes of the law. Though this does not happen, all of societies standards are pretty skewed where different kinds of racism are tolerated more so or less so. The police and companies can only be representative of this, after all they are part of the same social structure. It's pretty unfair how some forms of discrimination are very much tolerated while others are not.
Anyway, being offended does not really do any damage. I can think of loads of different things that a person can do that are far more hurtful but legal.

It is difficult from the video to see what the context of the original offence was...although and I have said this before, on busy fri/sat nights the Police do seem to have a preconceived judgemental attitude towards people.....maybe this is justified by the amount of abuse and trouble they have to deal with but it doesn't help them or their perception by the public at large especially the younger generations who are those frequently targeted.

Neither chap really helped themselves in the video either, and it is difficult to fully see the altercation between the Policeman and the phone holder, I would say with reservations that the Officer probably did not need to assault or push as the case may be, the phone-holder and if what the OP and the original chap being arrested in the video is true then the Police seem to have handled the situation very poorly.

But I reiterate, it is difficult to judge objectively and thus I give my opinion with serious reservation.
