Hello guys, I am looking for a new computer (only cpu, monitor and the rest are sorted out); I'm not very experienced or would know which one are the best.

Do you OCers have any recommendations for me?
the games that I am looking to play would be Dota 2/HoN and maybe some fps like bf3.

thanks for taking your time to read this post

A little bit over budget but well worth it .

I must read op wrong then, i think it says just base unit (cpu), monitor & rest is sorted. Its the comma threw me !

Thank you all for the replies; I do particularly like Lemin's suggestion. A little over 650 is not a problem. Just a question; would this play bf3 in max settings or just @ medium?

I already have a monitor but it's not quite the ideal one for gaming; I would not mind any 22" monitor around the 90£ price range.

I would think that Lemin's spec would play BF3 on High settings (not Ultra) reasonably well. I think BF3 has been pretty well optimised tbh. You would have to turn off MSAA and HBAO but most people do anyway tbh....

The good thing with Lemin's spec is that you can keep the vast majority of it for quite a while I should think and add little bits as time goes by. Things I would add in the future is:

(£25-£40)CPU cooler and OC the 2500k to about 4.6-4.8
(£80 for 64GB)SSD drive for OS
(depends what you chose)Faster gfx card
(£25)More RAM

As it stands though it would work pretty well with BF3 I think.

If you want a monitor included in the £650 ish then something like my spec would be best but if you can get a new monitor separate to the £650 then Lemin's spec is the way to go.

Hello, how long do you reckon would this system last? Say, daily usage. The main game that will be played is HoN and DoTA 2; which to be honest don't really need that much high specs. (I just used bf3 to base the video card performance as it seems to eat up more graphics)

All looking good guys but unless Fonzaye is buying tonight, that WD 500GB HDD is only that price on Today Only offer. There's 20 left and IIRC there were 50 odd this morning.

Also OP, do you need a OS?

Disagree, go with the i5 and if you can stretch a bit more than the 2500k

If you purchase any CoolerMaster Case with either the CoolerMaster Silent Pro Modular 500w or 600w Power Supply and you can obtain £20 off.

Simply enter CMdouble into the checkout voucher box when ordering to receive the discount.

It should last playing games you've stated for years and years and years.

If you mean playing the new games as and when they come out.....I'd say the gfx card will need upgrading in a year or so.

Nice spot on the HDD bobby.

It's literally getting to the point where it's better to just get a 64GB SSD and wait out the Thailand flood price hikes....

Thanks guys.
How do I go by and pick those items that mickyflynn has posted? Is that already a pre-built system or did you pick them individually by yourself?
For the price, it would be a good pick up; + the monitor. It's much better than what I have

I do actually, and maybe Office; but my friend will "hook me up" with one of those. Besides, they cost an extra 65£; which does hurt my wallet ;(

with the cmdouble code it comes to £700, over budget but then its due to the hard disk prices. do you happen to have any old sata hard disks you could reuse?

A little bit over budget but well worth it .

should i change the power supply that you've mentioned there which was 500W; should i be replacing it to something like 600-650Wish?

If you're using Mickyflinn's build then that 500W PSU is plenty. However I would take a look at the build Fowler002 has posted above. Much better.

Thanks bob.
Yes it seems a lot beter, but my problem would be the price :/ I am already pushing my limit with the 650£. Flinn's also has an additional monitor which is very good; if somehow I get my hands on a little more extra money I'll be considering Fowler's recommendation.
