fps games suck with pads

I think people who can't use a PS3 pad must be wrapping their hands around it. The sides/bottom of the 'handles' should come no further than the base of your fingers, not in your palms, which coincidentally puts the sticks in a great natural place for your thumbs.

I get on fine with both PS3 and 360 pads, but it always intrigues me when people say the 360 is more natural when one thumb must go higher than the other.

Both are better than the N64 pad lol, but the 360 pad just feels weird to me

Only for playing Dirt 3, Wipeout and Carmaddegon work fine with a keyboard

any moderately realistic racing game needs variable throttle, brakes and steering. WASD just doesnt cut it. if youve ever tried playing a racing sim with TCS or ABS disabled with a keyboard you'll know what im on about. ive tried CARS with the keyboard... never again

i can kinda see that wipeout and carmageddon would be fine with on/off for the acceleration/brakes though

You speak for yourself...I played through Dirt 2 with my keyboard..:p

Found it far more accurate and responsive taking corners than my 360 pad TBH...

i dont know about dirt 2, but i found exactly the opposite with dirt 3. i much preferred the pad for the same reasons as ive mentioned above

The left stick on the 360 pad is pretty much the sweet spot, that can't be mirrored on the right stick because of the face buttons. The PS3 pad doesn't even manage to get one stick right, both are a little too low and central to feel completely right, which is to be expected since at this point the Dual Shock is 13-14 years old and from a time when shooters essentially did not exist on consoles.

That said I do know people that do prefer the PS3 controller, it's far from unusable so I can only explain why I have a clear preference for the 360 pad.

Back when I had Killzone 2 on PS3, I just couldn't control the aiming with the pad it was just terrible, I thought to myself maybe i'll just give it time and hopefully get used to the controls after being a KB/M fan for so long. To cut a long story short I said "sod this!" and went back to PC gaming with my trusty keyboard and mouse. However I did use a Xbox 360 controller for one of the Assassins Creed 2 (I think) on pc and found it a lot easier than the keyboard (configuration wise).

I used to play console, then I started playing fps on PC and in the first week the shots I could get amazed me. I don't play much now, I don't think fps can ever suit pads.

I used to be OK with the 360 pad until I took an arrow to the knee (soz)

I don't find a gamepad that bad tbh. It's not as good as a mouse and keyboard, but it's not so infinitely worse as you make it out to be. I think it's a matter of getting used to it. If you've mainly used a mouse for years obviously you'll hate a console until ou get accustomed to it. It's the same the other way around, I know a guy who's pretty good at CoD on xbox but is just useless when he tries to play on PC. He can't stand aiming with a mouse.

The funny thing is that FPS games suck with the pad, buts quite a lot of recent RPGs and Indie Games play a lot better with one :)

Don't have a problem with it, been PC and console gaming for years, and I'll bet you I could kick your sorry arse with a pad on most PC shooters. Learn to play.

Some people enjoy playing whatever game on a pad / controller.

Some people enjoy playing whatever game on a keyboard and mouse.

Who knew!

If only the civil war would end so that pc/console gamers could unite agaisnt the current trend unfinished games, dlc in disc and other gaming problems.
So that after all that pc gaming can return to the top, were it belongs lol

i find pads fine for single player tbh, multiplayer is a different story however!

Same as you don't need the split second speed unless you play on the very hard settings, but even then the auto aim assist helps massively there too.

As for killzone 3, I played through it using the sharpshooter and playstation move + nav attachments and it was insanely good. Quite hard to get use to the movement, kinda like an arcade machine way of moving with the gun in your hand, yet it really threw me into the game in a way you often don't quite appreciate with a pad. It also allowed the split second aiming of a good mouse if you was fast and skilled enough to use it.

Just a shame its so bloody expensive to buy still though as the move kit was £40, nav controller was £18 and the gun itself was another £35 ontop of that!
