My phone contract is up at the end of the month, thinking of getting an IPhone, question is are they really that good or is an android phone better, currently have an HTC HD2 which has been good but is no longer supported(windows mobile 6.5)

Yes, they are really 'that good' but some Android phones are extremely good as well.

It comes down to personal preference really. What do you use your phone for mainly, what's important?

The fact you can jailbreak the iPhone means it is definitely the best phone in the market today. The level to which you can customise your iPhone is crazy

Whats "jailbreak" all about ?
Being able to install 3rd party applications. You can then customise things like the springboard etc. Personally I find having a jailbroken iOS device makes it a lot better. Unfortuantly iPhone 4S doesn't have a JB yet.

The iPhone isn't about customisation and that certainly does not mean it's the best phone.

It basically hacks the phone, allowing you to modify the software more than normal. Most people (even though they don't admit it) do it in order to be able to download apps for free. It's also unreliable with the 4S not even being supported properly yet.

It's not something you should really concern yourself with, if tinkering and so on is up your street then you probably want to look at Android.

Anyway, some phones for reference so you can do a bit of reading -

iPhone 4S

Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Android)

Samsung Galaxy S II (Android)

Nokia Lumia 800 (Windows Phone 7)

Do not assume that Windows Phone is the same as Windows Mobile - it isn't.

Doesn't have to be "about" in order to make it the best phone, the OS is by far the best too.

It's also unreliable

Only if you don't know what you're doing, after a little research it's easy to understand. I've jailbroken every iPhone I've had and never encountered any issues

Good comparison. the S II is definitely something I would look at if I didn't have an iPhone, but what about the Dell Streak, isn't that also comparable?

That is a matter of opinion.

Unreliable as in not always available. They are having serious trouble breaking the 4S are they not?

No, it is not...

It might be a matter of opinon but there's a reason Apple have the majority of the mobile market share AND are on top of every gadget magazine's review list

Yeah but you can stay jailbroken as long as you don't update to the latest firmware straight away, 5.0 only really gave people iMessage anyway, 4.3.3 can be jailbroken

In my experience this is true, so what are you sighing for?

No, they don't.

Only gave people iMessage... okay. :o

The 4S comes with the latest firmware anyway.

I don't know how reliable that source is, but 'Mobile/Tablet Operating System' market share is obviously going to have Apple winning due to the incredible dominance of the iPad.

We're talking about phones here, not tablets. :)

Well I found a few statistics that say Android is leading the mobile only market, but I thought the Apple figures were much more impressive.

Problem is, you can find statistics to backup anything, they're just not realiable on their own.

Android does have a fairly high user following, but overall Apple always wins lol

You really don't understand this at all.

As a single phone, the iPhone is the best selling device, I'm pretty sure about that.

Android is available on a large range of hardware (£50-500), so obviously is always going to have a much bigger market share.

As for your last comment, well... whatever.

You know the saying, it's best to keep your mouth shut... ;)

No, the guy was asking for opinions on which phone to get, I'm just voicing my thoughts on why he should get an iPhone

And that's fine, but leading with a 'Jailbreak F.T.W' argument when you can't even Jailbreak the 4S is a tad weak.

No one has asked Bobuk what sort of contract price he is willing to go to, or if he is willing to pay an upfront fee.

Or even what network he is on, and that he should call his provider to see what they can offer before he goes shopping around.

To try and bring back the thread to help the OP, Robbo asked earlier, what type of stuff would u be wanting to use the phone for mostly, as this will help people guide you in the right direction.
