Man of Honour Nomination....

Sub-Forum Extraordinaire......

GD is actually vital to the overall popularity of OCuk, it encourages members to become more regular and active contributors to the community at large, instead of the majority simply popping in on an infrequent basis when they have a hardware issue or want some specs etc.....sure some would remain regular to their chosen hardware section, but GD is the unifying force that pushes the forum forward.....It is the heart and soul of OCuk, the beating drum to which we all march.....[/SIZE]

Most of the active GD posters aren't anywhere near as active in the Hardware forums from what I've seen so they are not really so helpful in that regard if you ask me.

I think he has a partial point though.

Personally I used to post a reasonable amount in Hardware forums - and whilst now I post a lot less, since the discovery of GD, the discovery of GD led me to stick around when I was bored with giving people the same spec day in day out, because they couldn't be bothered to check a page of posts....

GD adds variety, to the frequent monotony of Hardware forums, and whilst for some yeah GD does ultimately pull them away, it does keep up an active user base...

However many are active in such sections to some degree, as well as remaining loyal to the Forum (and the business in general) and that would be degraded or even lost without the diversity that GD encourages throughout the Forum as a whole. GD/SC/Life and the largely excellent moderation is what makes OCuk unique amongst Hardware forums and without it I am of the opinion the Forum would be far less successful and subsequently so would the business.....

By creating such a forum that attracts such a diverse loyal membership (not only geeks), Spie has ensured increased success for his business.....and the Life section contributes greatly to that diversity and increased loyality and recognition by a wider audience and subsequently potentional customer base....a piece of business acumen that Spie should be rightly proud of, in my opinion.

Oh, I certainly understand the appeal of GD. All I'm pointing out that it isn't really a specialised forum and even though some great minds wonder around here, you're better off putting your valuable time elsewhere if you want to learn something useful or have an intelligent discussion.

That's not to say GD isn't a great time killer and good entertainment at times.

No doubt but I would argue if it is the most important section of the Forum. In fact I think the overall appeal of Hardware forums has been lowered for me over the years with other, more focused ones being more active and rewarding in many ways. Which is why General Discussion is probably one of the last interesting forums here.

Enough of the GD bashing from me, time to do something useful. :)

I only post in GD when I get bored of the hardware sections (water cooling and gfx cards). GD has more posts than the hardware sections simply because there are do many crappy threads like the tram one which just invoke hatred and lots of posts.

ergo, GD (and the Life section in general) keeps you interested and instead of looking elsewhere on the internet for something to do, you stay within the OCuk community....and thus remain a loyal and active contributor and potential customer....

Don't underestimate the impact the Life section has on the overall popularity and success of the Forum.

I'd vote for Stulid, Big-Wayne, Gareth and 5UB :p

This thread is cringe worthy and has a sour taste of ulterior motive to it.

I agree with Seraph, with the exception of 5UB and that is only because he is on the payroll :) Doesn't make him any less awesome. Big up 5UB.

Stulid and Big-Wayne are obvious massive knowledgable contributors to what is, fundamentally, a PC enthusiast forum. I was a bit surprised that Wayne wasn't one already!

Gareth - what else to say but, epic: thread, inspiration, achievements, modesty. Not only that but I'm sure he brought a lot of new blood to OcUK, due to the acclaim his thread received. That couldn't have hurt OcUK as a business I'm sure.

I'm sure Spie and the Dons have their thoughts already and the people chosen on Jan 1st 2012 will no doubt deserve the title. Please vote for Man of Honour and not Spam of Honour. Thanks.

I'd actually like Greenlizard0 get Moh. He was a great poster in the sports arena, and a very sad loss to the forum.

thats why i suggested Bigwayne and Stulid, the main business of this forum is Computer tech etc etc not some gossiping ninnys that spam the hell out of GD day in, day out

to that end, both of those guys have offered tonnes of advice, i realise that Bigwayne hasn't been active all year for some reason but when he was, he was the voice of authority and knowledge back in GH and Cpu's, for anyone that don't know, go look at the various Official Athlon & Phenom II Overclocking threads, he helped hundreds of people out with his testing and advice :)

It's a shame Askacapper isn't a 'proper' poster, as he and Gareth would be awesome as dual MoHs. Not because of their conditions, but because they have brought certain issues to a wide audience and helped to make things just that little bit better for gamers with disabilities.

Who's askacapper and what was his story?

I'm trying to think of one MoH for the food section but struggling. It seems that a lot of the good contributors in there are already MoH (I'm thinking of Stan_Lite, Jonny69 and Acidhell). However, Siliconslave needs a mention due to his knowledge and passion for coffee, the_blue & PaulStat need one for their brewing contributions and I think that QuickLink could become quite a useful poster in there. No one stands out in the same way like stulid.
I know we have lots of good posters in that section, but the guys referenced above stand out. DrunkenJester, you're a great chap as well. ;)
