Another how much to live in London

not really, its under going regeneration in light of the 2012 olympics... So I only see it getting better from here.

Regeneration doesn't suddenly remove the scummy and dangerous people from an area.

Stratford is a hole, dangerous and not somewhere you can ever feel safe walking around! Horrible horrible place!

I'm sure asim will be along shortly to tell us how wonderful it is driving around in an RS4 doing drive bys :D

Correct^ It is a dump. But as also mentioned it is being totally regenerated and after the games the Olympic Park is being developed into a Royal Park (Like Hyde Park/ St James's Park kind of thing) which will have the Aquatics Centre open to the public, the Veldrome and BMX track, and the Handball arena will be a new gig venue....all this plus the Westfield Centre means it should end up being a pretty decent place.....but who knows it could end up failing due to the current scummy Stratford inhabitants ruining it.

Ok.

****hole with a nice shopping centre

when was the last time you was there?

Don't feel safe walking around stratford? Some people are wimps or like to exaggerate. Stratford city centre is incredibly busy and so relatively safe.

which is my point, if none of the above was happening, then I'd agree.

Not finished yet though is it? Right now, today, Stratford is horrible. It'll probably still be horrible after the olympics because the people that live there will just wreck it anyway.

Stratford feels safe enough to me. Bow, where my girlfriend lives, doesn't always, but that's a different story.

Ohhh 6 months maybe.

Spent plenty of time working on the station upgrade and at the train depot so have seen enough of the place both day and night.

I also have plenty of friends still working around the area.

Putting all these nice shops and areas will bring the nice people along, ready for the scum to take full advantage. Regeneration won't fix that place.

Shock as a busy shopping area is considered safe. Walking around the quieter areas during the day arn't as nice, at night it's a whole different ball game. Never have I felt soo unsafe in London, and I've worked all across the city for many a night shift.

Not wimps, just normal people with plenty of experience of the area.

Anyway, this isn't a discussion about a hole, the OP might actually want advice on someone nicer to live. I love Clapham and Balham, but prices there are a bit silly these days. Lived in Tooting Bec and it was cheaper, although missing the super nice factor of Balham and yummy mummies. But head too far east and you hit Streatham...... Now that is a horrible place! Islington is pretty cool, but pretty expensive and I would say not as safe as Clap/Bal/Toots. Not had any real problems in any of those places, although friends have had some lucky and close encounters.

I've lived in Stratford for over 4 years. Some bits are safe, some bits (further from the centre) aren't. West Ham park is certainly not safe and Maryland is very dodgy too.

My girlfriend lives in Balham. Nice area but a 3 bedroom house is £750,000! Ridiculously expensive considering it's zone 3 and how bad the Northern Line can be.

My old mate who lives in London - the one who gave me 10 grand - see my post from a few months back - anyway he has just bought a house in SW3 and as I pointed out to him that for all the money he paid he doesn't have a front garden. However he seems quite happy with the 4 steps leading up from the street to his new property. Council tax he said was about 3 grand and he has to pay a few thousand just to park outside his own home ... dam expensive ....
