Can only really write about it now after 10 days or so.

COPD is

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronic_obstructive_pulmonary_disease

She passed peacefully in her chair, while it was a total shock as she wasn't expected to die anytime soon the quality of life she was leading near the end was not that of a 65 year old woman.

She smoked for 38 years but managed to gave up 12 years ago but the damage was done. My dad still smokes despite my constant nagging. :(

I'm writing this to appeal to any young readers out there who have just started smoking or are thinking about smoking please don't do it.

I'm sorry for your loss.

You Dad wants to look at himself carefully, considering recent events :(

Sorry for your loss.

I don't like smoke/smoking. It's a funny one, how do people get into it to start with? I have tried to smoke a couple of cigarettes and it's pretty vile. There's no way I'd keep it up.

I'm sure I read somewhere you'd be better off smoking weed anyway as the high is better and it's not so bad for your health? I have no evidence to back that up.

Sorry for you loss mate! my mum smokes a lot and drinks quite a bit too.. nothing we do seems to help sadly :(

My dad smoked for probably his entire life from his pre teenage years. Had a couple of strokes with the last one being at his request a DNR, as he refused to take his medication as he couldnt see he'd get better.

Despite seeing him on his hospital bed in the worst imaginable state my little brother continues to smoke, granted he's trying to give up and has temporarily a few times but doesn't seem that bothered about it.

Sadly enough, anybody that I know that knew my dad that smokes, still hasnt given up. I'd never ever touch them myself now, luckily though I've never been a smoker.

Sorry for your loss and I just hope in all of this, it helps someone to quit smoking or stops them even taking the habit up :)

Sorry for your loss.

I guess with your dad and others used as examples in following posts people just tend to continue smoking in the thought that it'll never happen to them.

Firstly, I'm sorry for your loss.

I quit smoking about a year ago because I could no longer continue doing something I knew was obviously bad for your health.

I can appreciate how hard it is for people to quit, but I can honestly say I wish I had never started.

3k per year (average) for 8 years, whatever health effects + the 24k+ I've wasted on being a smoker.

Smoking is a great way of wasting money, ruining your health & becoming an addict.

Sorry for your loss also.

I recently gave up smoking (4 months now) after my mother suffered a heart attack last halloween, afaik it's stopped 95% of the family smoking seeing the brain injury it has left her with.

Sorry for your loss.

My mum also has COPD from smoking, as she approaches 60 I can only hope she lives longer than 65.

Better off not smoking at all mate!
