VW recall - Injectors on PD140 and PD170s

Hi guys,

I've just learnt from another forum that VW have recently decided to recall certain PD140 and PD170-engined cars due to an injector failure issue. Quite a few people have been left with a car that won't start or even worse one that cuts out while driving, as if one injector fails, the ECU shuts them all down.

Apparently letters will be sent out to all affected, but they are replacing all 4 injectors and the loom FOC, work totalling around £3.5k inc parts and labour.

I've had no problems with mine yet, but called VWUK Customer Services on 0800 0833920, quoted my chassis number and they advised that the car was included in the recall. It's booked in to get the work done tomorrow.

Several people have reported an improved fuel economy since having their injectors replaced so hopefully that will be the case for me as well!

I can't be any more specific about which cars are affected as I guess only VW know, but if you have a PD140 or 170 then it's got to be worth giving them a call to find out.

If you have a seat the number is 0500 222222. Probably worth noting here the other recall going on in VW land is the TFSI coil pack recall (latest coil pack is version F) although you seem to have to moan a bit more to get this done.
 
Skoda have been replacing these FOC for a bit now but it seems to depend on the dealership as to whether it is an easy task getting the car booked in without having to go to Skoda UK. Not sure how much is hype but there seem to have been way too many cases of these failing at motorway speeds leaving you with no power steering and limited brake servo assistance :eek:

They are also doing a workshop campaign on all 1.8T engines to replace the coil packs, my one was done back in the summer when it went in for other work. With all these recalls and service campaigns you wonder how much the bill is for some shody bits of electrical kit :eek:
 
Had new coil packs done under recall on my Golf (2.0T) - think it was back in Feb they started to do them. I didn't know until I took it in for an oil service so they did them the same time.
 
Nathans 1.4TFSI had a cutting out issue, the update is they have replaced all coils and injectors, so maybe this issue effects the 1.4TFSI too.

The group must be buying cheap dodgy injectors and coil packs or had a bad batch. :eek:
 
Interesting, we had a 57 passat PD140 in a few months back that needed 4 new injectors at £500 odd each. Will remember this for next time!

Thats rubbish.

Injectors are rated by how much fuel they can flow. Plus injectors are all generally made by a few select companies, like Bosch for example and the cost is more like $100 each. The cost to make them is even less, I suspect cost too manufacturer is sub $10.

Still if VW are charging £500 each and getting away with well it explains why the VW group is one of the most profitable out there. :D
 
I just got a 140 Scirocco and my friend said that their 170 Golf keeps having the injectors fail at £400 ish a pop...

Is this recall true?

The net is full of people's reports on how they've had to pay around a grand to get 1 single injector replaced. VAG really do take the pee on the price of the injectors!

On the subject of the 140 having similar issues, I've seen people claiming to have received recall letters from VW for their PD140s, although from what I can tell it's mainly the 170's. The only way to be sure is to phone VW though.
