Well guys, i have just bought the missus a Kindle as i needed something to give to her on Christmas morning that she did not know about! I have spent around £130 on books too, which now i am thinking was a silly thing to have done! lol.

Question is, have i made a mistake? we have an iPad which she has claimed, she has n iPhone 4 too, which she does read books on, so... is a Kindle a bad move?

Thanks a bunch.

I have got 9,430 eBooks yes, 12gbs worth, but she likes paper books too, once read we can always Bay them to brig some money back.

I am just a bit stuck on the whole Kindle being worth it question.

I bought the wife one and its a nice bit of kit. But is it worth it? You have to buy the reader and then the ebooks are more expensive than paper. I believe paper books are vat free but ebooks youhave to pay vat so thats 20% more for a start.

Kindle > iPad for reading. The iPad screen isn't ideal for reading and I find it a bit painful on the eyes if I try to read on it for too long. I can read on the Kindle for hours on end which is why I use it on the plane/train and so forth.

£130 on books isn't too bad permitting she'll read them and its the thought that counts anyway. If she can't see that you made the effort to please her then she's a bit ungrateful. Im sure she'll appreciate the gesture.

You bought a Kindle then went out & bought a load of books.
What kind of madness is this ?

return kindle tbh. real books on a proper book shelf or in a library room = win.

depends what she prefers, but i can imagine reading a book on an iphone being awful compared to the kindle.

Do apple not have a kindle app? My gf has just treated herself to an android tablet to use with ebook apps.

EDIT: Re read OP my bad, yeah reading books on phones does get pants for the eyes

They are both bad ideas....unless she does excessive amounts of travelling where carrying real books is impractical. But I disagree with kindles :(

I went Amazon mad with the books a few weeks ago, then i decided to go with a Kindle this weekend, so to all intents i could return the books, but i think they will fill a bit more of her book shelves in the study. i call it a dust collector!

Oh hang on, you bought real books? I thought you meant for the kindle.

Kindle - bad.

Books - good.

I'll rue my anti-kindle stance the day I eventually buy one and become a massive hypocrite.
