I got Defense Grid, Cogs, and Witcher Enhanced edition for free before I even did anything (from past achievements?).

Yesterday I had nothing. I used up the Witcher gift even though I have in on CD, but I already have the other two.

I dont seem to have gotten anything for the defence grid achievement yet, I'll do the magicka one now.

I did one earlier and there was a delay for it showing up as done on the objective list. Give it a few mins and it will come, was a lump of coal for me.

You know the achievement targets change daily at 6pm GMT? Just as you mentioned defense grid which is one that started Monday and finished Tuesday at 6pm. You have to do them within that 24hrs before it changes to get a gift/coal.

I'm pretty sure that's not how it works, look at the bottom where it says "It's not too late! You can still complete these objectives and win items!"

it takes a while though, i did the spiral knights achievement a couple of hours ago and just got a lump of coal.
