Alan Hansen uses racist language on live TV

I am truly lost for words. I really am.

This is well and truly getting beyond a joke now. If people are offended by it, surely they are offended at being black.

What's wrong with the word "coloured" anyway? I remember singing a hymn at school when I was about 5 that said something like "and the creed and the colour and the name won't matter...".

What would have been a better word to use instead?

Just to confirm, white is every colour of the spectrum and black is the absence of every colour.

Although to be fair Caucasian people are beige and Africans/Indians etc are brown, so either way we're all colours.

I've always thought Caucasians as more Salmon pinky.

I recently attended a "respect in the workplace" course - Apparently, it fine to refer to someone as Black, White and so forth.. in the same manner as you would by hair for example. It's not acceptable to conjoin it with offensive abuse which is understandable.

I wasn't aware it was a racist term either, I even support many aspects of political correctness.

It's not like the term "coloured" is wrapped in history as being a term used to oppress a certain group - neither am I aware of any negative connotations associated with it to make it racist.

Isn't the meaning pretty much the same as "exotic" - which is considered totally acceptable (ie, none-Caucasian).

The problem isn't political correctness, it's fools taking it too far.

I wouldn't have thought twice about using the term 'coloured'. I didn't even know it was a 'dodgy' word to use. Luckily though I'm not on TV.

Alan Hansen is not racist, I was not aware coloured is a racist term. This is is ridiculous. The media are just looking for more ways to sell stories.
