[Official] HD 7970 Reviews

If this card was £350 I'd get one now, and hen get another in 2013 to crossfire. But £500!? No the performance increase isn't worth it if your playing at 1080P.

There's an obscene amount of bullsh*t in this thread.

We've had one guy say Nvidia are still in front, and another saying its not a top end card etc etc. The smacktard retardedness is mind blowing.

AMD have brought a new architecture, which on its first drivers is faster, quieter and much less power hungry than its competitors current best and people are posting stupid stuff like that.

Nvidia's next top end card to best their own 580 is months and months away, by that time AMD will have mature drivers and probably a hardware respin out.

hehe aye.
people waiting for Kepler I be having fun with a 7900 serie card and when kepler is out I might get a 7980 or if the whining is hard for kepler due to a lack of perrfomance I will :)
Kepler must double the 580gtx performance or its a failure.;)

I only say more mature drivers could deliver much better performance because this is a completely new architecture, and that's the only reason.

yes, we seen a 5% increase in Bf3 already due to the gcn arch.

Initial impressions: wow, they are charging £440 for that?

The only two games I care about at the moment are Skyrim and BF3. The 7970 beats the 580's minimums in BF3 by 5FPS. Not exactly groundbreaking. Then in Skyrim the 570 actually beats the 7970 by 5FPS.

skyrim might be the worst consol coded game brought to PC ever.

I foretell, 1200mhz oc achived with 7970 in common places.
I take note drivers will mature and add especially for crossfire a load of fun.

cost is high no doubt but if you want the king of the hill then you pay premium, always been like that.
:D

Just echoing what several others have said really... It looks like a really nice card, and when you take into account the rushed release and early drivers I think it has allot of potential for future improvement too. But I'm not going to rush out and buy one, especially not at release prices. In its current form its not quite enough of an improvement on my 580 to justify the cost. So I'll be waiting to see what Kepler brings to the table before I make a decision.

I think its a good start for AMD though, with a couple of months head-start on Kepler hopefully it'll make them a nice profit. And its nice to see them release a quality product again, especially after the bulldozer shenanigans.

i think this card needs the high resolution set up to stretch its legs, i like the bit tech reviews even if at times i find them a bit nvidia bias, but for a single card to come in roughly beetween 580 and 590 performance looks pretty good to me

Performace, noise and cooling wise, the card looks very elegant.

Just need those prices to drop.

When do they come in stock?

Its a bit of a paper launch isnt it? It seems AMD have lifted the NDA, just to stop people going and buying Nvidia cards for Xmas, rather choosing to wait!

Just to remind everyone...

Value wise the 7970 isn't going to be great when considering the price, just like the 6970 comparing to 6950, 5870 comparing to 5850 when they were launched.

7950 should be the one we should wait for. Pray that it is at <£300.

GTX580 performance at 300 notes would be nice for sure :)

I prefer the aesthetics over the previous two series of AMD cards. So far it looks like a job well done to me, a fair bit better than I expected in all honesty. Aside from apparent acoustic issues for some, overclocking and performance looks to be solid, even touching the heels of the 590 in quite a few cases, and invariably not that far behind the 6990 either. Of course, value is a different story, though not surprising when all considered. :)

It wont be GTX580 performance, more inbetween 570 and 580. I'll get one if there's a custom fan version as the 7970 under full load is as loud as a GTX580! Im dubious though as ATI drivers have always let their cards down in crossfire and I plan to crossfire 7950s eventually.

Looking good! Though I got a 6970 at launch and only recently put an Accelero XTREME Plus II on it, it's powering one 2560*1600 and two 1920*1200 cards and copes well.

While I'd love to upgrade I think I'll hold off for Kepler to shake things up, that way I can get a 7970 a littler cheaper or go back to nVidia for the first time in a long time.
