Xbox360 dashboard update, finally here?

Sweet! Cheers for the heads up.

Shame about having to have a gold account for 4oD and Youtube though. Guess its working for Microsoft as I have gone Gold now.

Shame on you for supporting this kind of thing and showing them that a certain percentage of people are weak minded enough that they'll bend over to corporate greed.

Every app so far has been great imo. I particularly like the Muvu.tv and YouTube ones.

Only one I think needs quite a bit of work is the Dailymotion one. It doesn't look like you can actually search Dailymotion for a particular video. Instead, it just allows you to view the featured channels such as news and comedy. It's odd because it lets you run a search but there doesn't seem to be much point doing that.

Demand 5 is tripe. There is nothing on there unless you like Home and Away and Neighbours. No sniff of World's Strongest Man. :(

I am simply paying for a service I didn't have before.
Its much easier watching Lovefilm and Youtube on an xbox than streaming PC to TV. Also my 14 month Gold subscription was heavily discounted.

Jesus, write to OFCOM if it bothers you so much

It's not like all you get from a Gold sub is the TV features. Technically you're not paying for them anyway, you're paying for the whole platform that they sit on along with a ton of other stuff.

A platform that is and should only even of been ad/marketplace supported, gold has always been pathetic, adding more artificial limitations just makes it more so, they have ad money, money on every game bought and on all the rubbish in their marketplace and yet still expect us to pay for the basic right to play games online even though they're hosted on our own connections and hardware, just because people buy into it and it's not a huge sum of money doesn't make it right, they would make plenty of profits without gold.

what a load of rubbish

Truth is, you sound totally anti-Microsoft as a business.

he has a point
microsoft has been getting away with their gold subscription for years and no one has ever raised an issue at least officially in courts. what we are officially paying for is nothing besides a long log of our activities which they keep on their side like what we download on the console which has no use to us practically. most seem to want to justify it on the basis that it isn't much money, well maybe it is or maybe it isn't but it shouldn't cost anything at all.

Im not anti-Microsoft im anti-greed and questionable business practices.

I've paid two years gold on the 360 and one years worth on the old xbox, back then they couldn't even justify it because there was no live marketplace or fancy dash like we have now, all we've ever really paid for was the ability to play multiplayer, this could be perhaps justified if Microsoft ran dedicated servers for all the games but they do not, we pay the for the hardware, electricity and internet connection, all they provide is a bunch of servers for matchmaking which is easily covered by all their other money streams, scrapping gold would make the platform much better for everyone.

It's like how sky used to charge £10 extra a month for the ability to record on their sky+ boxes, even though it's a simple hardware function that costs them nothing more than the price of the box, it's just wrong.

it's just wrong.

So don't pay then? (although it seems you have done previously for several years worth of subs, so actually, you're just as "bad" as the rest of us!)

Most of us are more than happy with the service, which is pretty much accepted as the most complete and tight online gaming platform available.

No Gold = a PSN situation = no thanks!

Well, its not just that is it? With Sky+ you are using a second feed from the satellite dish and ultimately "renting" a second feed from the actual satellite itself.

I would rather not pay for something that should in all honesty be free, i know it and they know it, it's greed, lots of companies are just as bad, that doesn't make it right though.

Also with the sky example, what you've just said is a load of rubbish, it costs them nothing more whether a piece of hardware can record or not, once the data has left the satellite it's all the same, the costs are the same regardless of whether one person has a sky+ box or a million do.

You do realise that the space for feeds inside satellites isn't unlimited? Each feed is independent, whilst it can hold a lot, I don't understand how you could think not charging for it is sensible?

They gave an additional service and you expect them to give it away for free?
