I ask because my mate has recently separated from his wife and since then (about 8 months) she has “Found God” again, her family are very religious anyway and I think it was a way back in their good books, but anyway!

She wont let either of her/his kids watch harry potter for the reason that it goes against god? Its a work of fantasy. How is it against god? I don't think religion comes into the films at all?

I know its up to her, but she has told my friend that he is never to let them watch it!

I think its a bit much myself.

What do you think GD?

Oh and ib4 lolreligion

Isn't it more to do with sorcery and witchcraft that's in it more than against religion.

Does the bible mention anything about witchcraft and sorcery?
Wouldn't be suprised if it does but I guess she's probably going OTT on the religion thing.

So long are you're teaching kids the truth and not promoting a belief that sorcery and witchcraft are good and something to try then I don't see a problem with HP.

I tried watching HP and it thoroughly bored me rather than offend me as a Christian.

Harry Potter is a work of fiction....it makes no reference to Christianity per se and is not anti-religous. Quite the opposite in fact, they celebrate Christmas in every film do they not?

Some misguided evangelical Christians seem to take the pagan symbolism in Harry Potter as being symbolic of anti-Christian intent on the behalf of the author, when the fact is that the pagan symbolism is inate to the plot and subject matter....i.e Magic!

Some people simply cannot help but see offense in everything and these people should be ignored.

Besides....Emma Watson.

Why aren't sorcery and witchcraft good and something to try?

Sorcery and witchcraft don't actually exist......at least not in the context most people mean when they mention the terms anyway.

So it is neither good or bad....it is just a plot device or a concept in pagan folklore.

Unfortunately I do know people who believe that witchcraft is real and claim to be practising witches. They were friends once :(
