Had an absolutely hellish day so I need to vent a little, apologies in advance!

I do part-time retail work, a lot of us have been there, Christmas is hellish, needs must and all that jazz but working with the general public really does open your eyes to how mindlessly horrible and disgusting they are.

Retail park was jumping with cars and crowds of people at half 7 this morning, still pitch black out, couldn't believe my eyes. Went to get the staff in to be greeted by people running over asking when we opened, why isn't everywhere except Next open 'it's ridiculous.' That started the day off nicely.

Next 9 hours were spent having arguments with people, witnessing my staff get thrown abuse when things weren't on sale, our terms and conditions stating blatantly that we cannot accept refunds on boxing day etc etc. Not a smile from anyone all day, place was packed to the brim with manic buyers, I'd gauge 90% of sales were cash transactions - presumably gift money.

I've never met anyone in my life who spends their boxing day shopping. All the anger and hostility to get £10-15 off something that had been on sale for weeks is beyond me. Why people think it's their god given right to get money off things at the click of a finger is ridiculous, too.

Angry enough at having to work, would I hell venture near a shop. Vulgar people. Chill out, enjoy your time off pleasantly with family and be nice to people - like that'll ever happen, there's money to be saved!

There's loads more, a lot of swearing that could be discussed, how a younger member of my sales team was nearly assaulted by a customer, the swearing the staff got but I wont bore you anymore! /Rant over :)

I popped into comet to buy a new TV, things were not marked down as much as I hoped. So left empty handed. The places in Team Valley were packed!

No where I wanted to shop was open, since most shops are still shut. You should know what the general public are like!

My friend wanted a new pair of headphones! So we nipped in to Leicester City centre.

Lasted 30 minutes. Terrible.

Friends that work in the City Centre / Fosse Park (retail park) have said pretty much the same as you.

One friend who is working something like 13/14 hours today sounds almost suicidal in recent texts :p

You could probably fix this by not having terms and conditions that violate a consumers statutary rights (In the case of anyone with faulty goods). I understand why retailers try and do this - you dont want the queue twice the size - but you shouldn't be suprised when it annoys people.

I do have a short temper at times but in general I'm pleasant to everyone, bit of a charmer, love having a quick chat, can usually diffuse must situations but I've never seen anything like today, I lost my rag before I even opened the doors. What annoys me more is seeing staff members in near panics with stress or close to tears because of abuse.

Faulty goods are accepted and refunded. Monetary refunds and exchanges do not have to be given, it's a good will gesture.

Why would anyone endure boxing day shopping, madness? You can get most things just as cheap or cheaper online anyway!

Yes people are horrific things, I currently hate them and im honestly 100% trying my best to stay away from as many as I possibly can, gone for 4 days now without seeing anyone and its heaven.

I think the mental gloomy clouds overhead and with the recession have caused people to become more aggressive to the point of stupidity, unfort a sign of things to come - less will be available in the world, but the generation of idiots that you saw today thinks its there god given right for everything ... it will be a difficult transition.

That and people haven't clocked onto the fact that most retailers had a full blown sale by mid December this year anyway.

I used to get triple time for doing it. It was awesome when you are a Uni student.
The money is the one and only benefit.

To some people saving £10-15 on a TV is the be and end all of everything. :D

It is sad, but that's just the nature of the beast.

Or, they could find a reputable ebay retailer with absolutely pristine feedback offering the same TV for a fraction of the high street price.

Be as you like, I'd always say, each to their own but I wont stand for being or having ones around me treated like dirt over a few miniscule savings.

I went into town today expecting it to be totally and utterly packed out - there was less people out than on a normal Sunday.

And i have no idea why!

Like others have said, not really many bargains to be had anyway I think really. Plus everything can be done online and waited for and no need to deal with the public yourself then either.

I'm glad I don't work in the retail side of my job anymore. It can be rewarding but far too many idiots about these days for my liking.

That's what happens when you mix people with little money, with discounted items which they'd otherwise not be able to afford.

I wonder if these people have specific items in mind that they want/need at a cheaper price, I guess that might make a bit of sense but it seems to me that a lot of these people are just desperate to get out and spend their money after being stuck in the house which leads to rampant buying of reduced items that they probably don't really need.
