Man of Honour Nomination....

Who on Earth would want to be mod? Dedicating an inordinate amount of time for.......what exactly?

Fair plays to the guys, but not for me! (Not that I was in the running :D)

Well if you already spend ridiculous amounts of time on the forums instead of getting a social life, then being a mod could only be a good thing surely?

I simply can't fathom someone not wanting to be a mod!

Maybe not but for whatever reason it isn't something that everyone will want to do and that's fair enough.

I feel that the biggest issue with being a MOD is keeping your objectivity, especially in threads that you personally participate in.

How easy and satisfying would it be to simply ban someone because they consistently disagreed with you?

Moderators do try to remain objective but occasionally no doubt it's not easy to do however with that said for many suspensions there will be some discussion amongst the moderation team regarding whether it is appropriate or not. It's easy to ban someone but it's rarely just because they disagree with you, there are reasons for bannings even if it's not always apparent to other users (normally due to clearups afterwards removing offending posts) and it's often not simply unilateral unless the rule break is so blindingly obvious that no debate is merited.

Ah, memories of Neilgate and the 10% :D

Still don't see it to be honest. If I'm going to waste time on a forum, it's because I want to do so, not because I'm obliged to put in a fair amount of work. Moderating would quickly kill the amusement of this forum.

Not to mention I'm a immature ******* sometimes especially with a skinful of drink in me. :D

Well, for one thing, you are kind of obliged to visit every single thread, even ones you never would have gone into before just to see if it has any rule breaking.

It also changes your perspective on the forum. You will read posts from different angles and that will take away the fun element of it.

This is all true. It can be a bit labourious but I didn't find that too much of an issue. It does mean you can't put anyone on ignore which is an obvious downside.

It doesn't necessarily take the fun out of it. I still had plenty of fun as a Don. It does change your posting style though. Thundy mentioned that my posting style changed when I left the mod team. You do need to be a bit more careful about what you post.

I read through pretty much every thread in the sections I frequent anyways :p

Also, don't RTMs alert dons to rule breaks instead?

I can't see how a perspective could change though?!

As a general member, your obligation is just stay on the right side of the rules so keep it safe for work, no swearnig etc.

As a mod, what you say can be contruded a reflection on the rest of the OCUK team and thus you need to watch what you say, and your opinion on some matters so you end up treading waters more carefully.

Agreed.
Dons/Admins represent OcUK & should act accordingly.
